Locomotive transfer from MSTS to Trainz

I have figured out a bunch about conversion and I have gotten a converter. Does anyone know how to remove the bogies in gmax? I can't figure it out.

PROUD MODELLER!!!!!!

As has been said after nearly every post- in addition to not figuring out how to remove bogies, you haven't figured out how to register your copy of Trainz.

Proud modeler? What exactly have you modeled? Converting someone else's model to a different platform does not make you a modeler. Going to a museum and stealing a painting to hang in your living room does not make you a painter.

I am not that advanced in gmax and whenever I try it doesn't work properly. And, my version is from Amazon and has already been registered. And, it is outright discrimination to not give people information if they can't register. I have told you that it doesn't work for me. I am thinking about getting TRS2010 sooner or later, but I am not paying $14 dollars for shipping. I just don't have that kind of money and even if I did I don't have a credit or debit card. I can't find any information because you just say I can't do it without registering. And yes, I do try making things by myself but you try if no one will give you information. And, the only thing I have modeled is in HO scale. Don't even bother to ask why. You know the answer.

OK: At the top of the screen and to the right of "Register" is "Helpdesk". Only Helpdesk can assist you with Registration Issues. I suggest submitting a ticket to Helpdesk outlining any issues you may be having with the registration process. Once this is accomplished, the information will flow. However, you will need a Serial number.

John,

I am sorry to say but you are not going to receive any support here from the community unless you register your software. It does not matter whether the version is 14 years old or not, it still has to be registered. Period. If you are having difficulties registering, contact the helpdesk here: http://support.auran.com/. Someone, usually Zec Murphy, will assist you.

As far as importing locomotives from MSTS, this is generally frowned upon by the community unless it is done with support and permission from the original author/creator.

Thank you and regards,

Aye, but sometimes, it can't be possible to get permission, for example, if the original author is no longer around and it's impossible to contact him.

Unfortunately, in those situations your pretty much screwed. No permissions, no release.

Is there anyway around it if your version was already registered? And, does anyone know of any tutorials for GMAX?

The only way that I know of is to purchase a new serial number from N3V. I have no idea how much that is, a member of the N3V Team will have to answer that.

All so if you are not registered you can not upload to the DLS and if you did make something the kuid number may be used already so no one would every use it. Get your money bake from Amazon.

If you purchased a used copy of UTC (very old and basic) ftom Amazon, you are pretty much out of luck. See if you can locate a NEW copy of a later verion at resonable cost. Sometimes free shipping is offered.

JJS, I see you've been languishing around the forums, so here's doing you a big favor.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRAINZ-ULTI...pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item232d2d876f#shId
$9 for sealed UTC
$4 for shipping within US

This is the cheapest you're going to find UTC.
Your used copy is a dud, because it's registered. There's very little chance you're getting a refund from Amazon. Even if so, you'll have to pay to ship it back to them. Besides, even if you managed to register it, you won't be pulling anything off the DLS in a hurry because UTC is end-of-life. You will need an FCT. Buying an FCT just to download content more than a decade old doesn't make the slightest monetary sense, especially since you say you're strapped (for cash, not firearms).

So your best bet is actually this:
http://www.simulatorcentral.com/ind.../trainz-simulator-2010-engineers-edition.html

Very stable, as other have pointed out. Supports most modern content. And if you don't feel like keeping your collection neat and tidy, there's still Compatibility Mode. You don't want to pay for shipping, well there's the instant-download option.
Just do it. Ask nicely for your parents' credit card or Paypal account. Wash the dishes or mow the lawn in return. Whatever. This is not Call of Duty or Garbage Simulator 2016, this is Trainz. It'll be worth it.

For a little bit more, here's the TS12 instant download

I might get TRS2010 but I don't know how digital copies work... Can you install it again on another computer without having to buy it again? And, will the compatibility mode work as far back as UTC?

You download a large file, an "installer" which you use to install Trainz like you would any other program. If you need to install it on another computer just copy this installer there. I presume it should be alright to have multiple installs since N3V doesn't use sophisticated PITA-style DRM, but I've never tried that so someone else will have to confirm (why would you want to do that anyway?).

Yes, all content is backwards compatible. Logically TS12 SP1 will run all content ever created for Trainz. However some older assets may cause errors and need to be fixed. This is where you will find TS10's compatibility mode to be useful, this feature reduces performance. TS12 lacks a compatibility mode. You may backdate newer content to work with TS10 but not all content can be backdated.

You can have two or more Trainz installations and it is very useul. You might want to have TS12 at 49922 to use as your main version and install a second copy patched to SP1 and hotfixes to test your new content in that version for extra compatibility as well. :)

jjstrainz, I don't see where anyone answered your questions about GMAX tutorials. There may be a few on Youtube, however, by the time Youtube rolled out, GMAX was already deprecated, so while there are a few tutorials there, I would really recommend that you consider Blender for content creation in preference to GMAX. The cost out of pocket is the same, but there are online courses at the high school level (cf. <http://www.cdschools.org/Page/455>), and at the college level (cf. <http://gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html>), not to mention a wealth of tutorials available at Youtube, Vimeo, and through other sites.

I understand from past threads, that trying to migrate content from MSTS is not generally successful because of differences in implementtion between the two platforms, and that it is usually less work to create new meshes with Trainz in mind.

As far as purchasing a copy of Trainz that will provide you valid registration, Trainz 2009 is available as a digital download for about 10 Australian dollars (about 9.25 US dollars, but there may be a slight currency conversion charge). A digital download is just that: you download a file (or files) from the website, and install them on your machine. To do this, you would need a reasonably fast connection; if you are still on dial-up, you might want to do it at your local library, or school. When you have the files, you install them on your machine, following the instructions. If you get a different computer, or want to use the game on more than one, you can download the files multiple times, since you have the Serial number.

JJ was asking about having installs on different computers, which the N3V servers will detect as different IP and/or MAC addresses. I have 3 separate TS12 on the same computer and they work fine. Heck, I can even be running TS12B and committing assets in TS12A and taking screenshots in TS12C all at the same time, because they use separate databases.

I doubt that the N3V servers check for IP addresses. My ISP does not provide a fixed IP address, so the IP is usually different each time I log on. Further, I have installations on more than one PC, using the same serial number.
