Life Time only 50 years

In a really perfect scenario we'd have two DLS-es running simultaneously, with most new uploading going to the independent one and 'legacy' assets on the old one which would take a large load off the Auran servers. Different people (including me ) would be hosting a few servers as well. People will still need to login, but there is no need for FCTs as there can be some advertisements here and there like Train-Sim.com.

In a perfect scenario, that is. :)

I did use the free 60-day FCT that came with my TRS2006 and I was not pleased with the results at all. If Auran intended to use that as a "demo" for the capabilities of an FCT, then it's failed to impress me. If people are convinced Auran's FCTs will deliver, then of course sales will pick up and schemes like the Lifetime Ticket would not be necessary in the first place.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

I paid $14.95 USD for TrainzRailwayz2006, and my downloading with the factory FCT was great, while it lasted. Sadly, now it has run out, and downloading is slowwww without a FCT !
I think I have gotten my worth out of Trainz ... 97,000+, free assets...what other game offers that for $14.95 ? I think I need to buy a FCT and TRS2009 just to repay Auran for their great simulator.

most likely they are trying to account for the life of the game and/or your period of time using it. You may say now, that you think you will be using it for years to come, but think logically, 50 years is a very long time to be playing a single video game... most likely, you will at some point become frustrated, bored, or just loose interest in trains all together (unfortunately)

This just seems like it makes sense

good day:wave:

Hi All
We are currently investigating the issues with the lifetime FCT's, such as them expiring at the wrong time.

I have confirmed that the length of the tickets is 50 years.

Thank you for your patience

An interesting offer. Nice to see some creative marketing going on. It's certainly got me thinking.

Hi all
The issue with the tickets expiring has been rectified, and should now be activated.

Please do not worry about the shorter time span of the tickets, which is now 25 years, this is a limitation of the unix server system.

Thank you for your patience.

There are a couple of specific reasons to get a FCT.

1 - Big routes. There are still routes with lots of dependencies on DLS that take more than a day's limit to download.

2 - TS2009. If you use it, it would be worth it. Using larger textures and some items with LOD makes larger CDPs, just look through the TS2009 section of DLS. I had a couple of unused FCTs from previous Trainz activations, I used them all with TS2009.
Downloading with one was easy.
When they ran out, downloading was slow as heck. And I discovered some file size limits where certain items of certain sizes or bigger would download in CM2 but not install unless I closed down CM2 then restarted.

Storknest, your post is of real interest. I have never used any of the FCT's on the three versions of Trainz I own (2006 & 2009). I I also own 2004 which is still in a sealed box and never registered. It may not have had a FCT of course. Are you saying that I can use the FCT that came with earlier versions with 2009? I realise that the DLS station doesn't care about what version you're downloading for, but I was under the impression that the free FCT started to tick away when you registered Trainz, not when you made your first download.

I actually raised this question with Auran on the forums when I purchased 2006 because I wanted to practice for a few months before downloading. I never got no answer.

Come on guys & gals, I don't know what some of you are going on about. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. Full stop !!!!
For those that haven't noticed, HELLO, there's a global recession on an a lot of small companies are struggling to servive/going out of business..............
I applaude the person in Auran that came up with the bright idea. Basically getting more revenue in now (4 or 5 years of FCT paid in advance) to help with cashflow now. As far as I'm concerned, it's a smart, sensible business decision...

Those that want to take up the offer, will. (After 4/5 years they are laughing all the way to the bank). Those that want to stay with, 3, 6 or 12 monthly renewals, great.
Those that are too tight to buy a FCT, that's their choice & good luck to them as well.
I for one think the peanuts we pay (few cents a day) for a FCT (warts & all) is excellent value for money.
My thoughts anyway. Happy Trainzing...
Cheers, Mac... :p

Hi Johnk
The first class ticket will work for all versions of Trainz that you have registered to that profile. The expiry date will be worked out from the time that you activate it.

My lifetime ticket no longer shows that it has expired, but the exploration date is the year 2034, or 9125 days from now.

What happened to the 50 year exploration date that some of you have reported?

Hi Zec,

Thanks for rectifying the lifetime FCT problem, and if I have to buy a new ticket in 2034 I will gladly do so. :)

At $0.01095 @ day I shall start saving up for it. :hehe:

If I am still doing this by then I think that will be money well spend.

Cheers,

Bill.

Ok now this is funny. (Well maybe just to me, but then I'm a programmer.) I assume this is the issue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem.

So the original 50-year limit was overflowing, causing the tickets to appear as expired. 25 years was chosen as a quick fix as it is the largest round-ish number that will fit.

Good times.

Regards,

Rob.

;) Ooooooooooooh nooooooooo!

My life expectancy has been reduced again by computing! :hehe:

Definitely, this is really a funny thread.

Take it easy, guys.

The less expectant side of Alberte

Hi,

I,ve just rechecked my profile, and now instead of having in excess of 18,000 days of FCT left I now only have just over 9,000.

This could be a problem for me. In 9,000 days time I will probably be a drooling wreck, unable to remember my own name let alone be aware of what year it is.

How could I possibly be capable of ensuring that Auran add another 9,125 days to my FCT (for free) at this time.

Cheers, John
