To those of you learning, planning or modifying routes, you know the value of VistaMare Trainz Maps.
Trainz maps is surely an invaluable tool to say the least. However printing an entire route can be an intimidating task. The result can be enough pages to fill a large binder.
As a beginner, I was route crazy. That settled down a bit and I have concentrated on 4 routes I really enjoy. The smallest is Cajon Pass, roymac, kuid:51767 .
A versatile route, easy to spend hours of time wondering the track. Up from there is Mopac Route of the Eagle, mikelj001, kuid:119340. This one is a jewel. It will tax your computer to the fullest. High transfer rates and a good video card is a must for this one. An outstanding example of textures and scenery.
Now lets get big. Real BIG. The UMR series, neilsmith749, kuid:95512, is a clock killer.
You won’t be going to bed early running this route. It takes hours, days, weeks, to explore it from end to end. And when you manage to get several trains running, well nuff said. Totally engrossing. And lastly, for high speed, sit back and enjoy the scripting,
The Clovis series, Derrmy, kuid: 203465. This one you can run all day. Perpetual entertainment. It just goes and goes and goes.
Now to the point. How do you learn all these routes.
I mean LEARN them enough to really schedule trains to run or operate in a prototypical fashion. To do so, printing a map for reference is a must.
Without it you wander about aimlessly. This is where VistaMare comes to the rescue.
But as I said, eating a ream of paper is no problem here. But... there is a solution. And its nothing but amazing how easy it is and how versatile the results are.
Go to doPDF.com. Get the latest version, 7.1. Its will change the way you run Trainz. doPDF installs as a printer driver.
Select is as the default printer and everything you print from you computer, EVERYTHING, is printed to a .PDF file. Now you can view and print selected maps from Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader.
It will cut down on the number of pages you need to print drastically.
The white space pages can be ignored. The long stretch pages can be ignored. You can focus on those areas that you really need help with. doPDF is usefull for other things too but I’ll leave that to your imagination.
It is really become one of those "Can’t do without" utilites along with TrainzMap. Try it!
Sorry for being long winded. Thats just me! Thanks for the formating aardvark1... I'm no english major!
