After downloading locos from Camscott that uses the disks as loads in the correct postions and Jayholland who uses andi's interface and you select destination I got really intrested in them and have been returning to the southern railway electric Railway site and looking through them
LBSCR : Intresting the Extra coloured disks, Black dot on white, Green dot on white, double black diamonds where used in all the normal 4 positions, the double black lines where only used by them selfs in the middle bottom as a inspection train for looks like one section upto 1910 , the black plus were used in all 4 then 6 positions once that system was introduced 1910 till 1917, did find references to those extra disks in the later years being used to indicate trains from other companys, the double black diamonds where used to indicate a Day special on the same line as a 2nd disk in another position upto 1910, these disks where replaced by codes using green lights at night
The most confusing thing if you want to use them in Trainz is there was trains that had their own code on the outbound trip and a different one in return some used the same code as Brighton to London Bridge or Victoria direct on return ... even worse there were trains that actually changed codes mid journey
Just probly some useless info but thought someone might be intrested what I found so far ... its a very complex topic more than I first thought
Tom
I've only had a quick look at the other companys but if you want me to look further please say, don't mind a little research
