Kuji Rail sim release date Friday 5th October 2007

Just got RS yesterday... After having played for a while i must say that this simulator has real potential. It does however need to be "tuned" a little bit though. Signals behave somewhat strange and in many cases you get no advance warning of a red signal before you can see it, and even if you dump the brake line, you will still pass the signal.

And the bell-ringing Advanced Warning System is more of a nuicance than a helping hand. But KUJU guys are working on a patch to fix all of this and more. So for those of us that like to DRIVE trains, not just toy with them like you do in trainz, (trainz does not support a meet on a single track station between an AI-controlled train and my train) this is a great simulator!

Just a polite correction: Trainz can do that, and a heck of a lot more, if you program it in GameScript or if you set it up in TPR's SCS (Trainz Pro Routes' Scenario Creation System).

Ah, that old tune again, yes, Toyz'r'Uz :hehe: IMHO, you haven't tried Trainz long enough.

Take care,

Alberte, Toyz'r'Uz curator. ;)

I have yet to read anything that would give me a "clear cut" reason to move from TRS2004. While I was very disappointed with TRS2006, and therefore cautious about TC (I do not have yet), I am rather hopeful that the TC - UK version coming out next year will be great and fully expect to buy it.

Curiousity got the better of me and I downloaded the demo of KRS.

While I still believe that TRS is better (2004 especially), I found the Kuju sim as portrayed in the demo to be the beginnings
of a worthy competitor, although it was very evident that in some aspects it is still unfinished. As a Driver sim it is not
really interesting to me, I prefer the content creation aspect, something that Trainz allows for very well. I can not comment on
the driving aspects.

It is strange that they are STILL in discussion with Discreet about an exporter for Gmax and/or 3DSMax, considering how long
this program has been cooking, I think that this particular problem should have been fixed before release. It appears that an
exporter exists, licensing is the sticking point.

I also noticed some strange things that for a driving sim are unexcusable.

Firstly, the settings of the reverser are either full forward or full reverse, no provision for intermediate settings. A real
no-no for a steam driver.

Secondly, the valve gear is not fully animated and has been set in mid gear as a short cut, not impressive.

Thirdly, it is possible to uncouple while travelling at full speed, hit the wrong key and your coaches are gone. This should
have been interlocked with the line speed to prevent this. Realism!!?

I did like the collision animation, reverse into Bath station at 25 mph and while the coaches do not collapse, the loco
animation looks a little more realistic than the Trainz version. I didn't check the FPS but there was very little discernable judder.

On the whole, I like what I see, and if this one had come along, instead of Trainz, as a competitor to MSTS, MSTS would be gone
immediately. It is unlikely that I will change from Trainz, but if KRS had been released with all the creation facilities, I
might have been tempted. I will probably buy it when the US version is available, purely for interest and a change of pace.

I am interested to see what they provide as an equivalent to the Download station, the Auran KUID system, which I think cannot
be surpassed, and this forum. Until they do something the same, I do not believe they will gain the kind of devoted following
that Trainz has created.

Cheers

What a strange idea. Rather like telling someone to learn to drive a car in first gear and only after they get a license are they told how to change gear.

This was supposed to be a demo and not have hidden tricks. Not that it worries me at all, I didn't enjoy the driving, a bit like watching paint dry.

MSTS didn't provide those equivalents and I wouldn't be surprised if it still had a larger devoted following than Trainz......Funny you should look for them to do something the same when so many are looking at new sims for something different. Some Trainz fans are a bit fickle as far as I'm concerned.....hoping that a new sim will be better than Trainz so they can leave, then when it isn't, turning around and singing the praises of Trainz again....til the next new sim.

You misunderstand my comment. I am not looking for them to provide similar things, I don't care what they do, I just believe that if they neglect this aspect of the game, they will not have the success they must be expecting. The three factors I mentioned are not a playing part of the game, but they are three things that have made Trainz such an engrossing program.

As far as I'm concerned, I am committed to Trainz and could see nothing in the demo that would entice me to change. Buying the US version of KRS is not a signal that I intend to change horses. I am probably one of the earliest of Aurans registered users still on the forum and I'm still creating content, why would I leave?

The mods made me do it!

Well after some prodding by Alan as a result of posting this in #Trainz I'm putting it here, citing his reason: "many users will have bought the game and should know that":hehe:

------------IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING RSDEVTOOLS------------
Dear RSDevTools user,
It has come to our attention that a very small number of developers have
encountered a problem when uninstalling the RSDevTools exe or docs. In a small
number of cases, uninstalling can result in other files, including those in the
user's "My Documents" directory being deleted permanently.
This note describes what you should do to avoid this. We strongly advise you
NOT to uninstall the RSDevTools until you have followed the steps below.

1. DO NOT UNINSTALL THE RSDEVTOOLS.

2. Download the new version of the exe and docs from www.railsimulator.com downloads page or use the links below

http://www.railsimulator.com/files/rsdevtools/RailSim_2007-11-21-1356_66_4i_DevTools.exe

http://www.railsimulator.com/files/rsdevtools/RailSim_2007-11-21-1356_66_4i_DevDocs.exe

3. Install the new version of the RSDevTools exe and docs. This will correct
the error in the uninstaller.

As always, we’d recommend you backup your computer on a regular basis -
particularly before adding or removing software.

If you require further assistance, mail support@railsimulator.com

:hehe: All that starts bad ends bad... by Billy Kulluspeare!

We must admit that Kujuans are not being lucky with their releases. Some kind of ill-fated zombies (maybe those walking on KRS platforms? :hehe: ) must have put a spell on them.

Take care, Kujuans.

The thing that really makes me chuckle is how everyone is bagging and bashing on KRS for a lot of errors, some of them fundamental, while conveniently ignoring that a lost of Trainz' major releases have been just as rushed and bug-ridden, and had just as many basic bugs.

I don't want to get into a big long list, but off the top of my head, TRS2004 had AI that would always turn left at a junction if told to "just drive", as well as a few lovely forgottens in the drivercommand queue window (like not being able to scroll and thus not being able to reliably stack more than 7 orders at a time :) ). TRS2006 had scripting errors and perfectly-clean content being flagged as "faulty" (even after being fixed, the fix was rated "faulty.") Oh, and let's not get into CMP :D

So please don't go bashing on KRS about basic fundamental problems when Trainz has had it's fair share of the same in each release :D

For the record, I am downloading the demo now, and if it's good I just may pre-order the full thing. I haven't truly used Trainz since spring (I dabble here and there anymore) so I might even be able to provide more of an objective, neutral review than you might otherwise get here

I don't think it so much the errors themselves but the huge build up that was promulgated since the first announcements were made. Everything was going to be better, bigger, brighter, etc. Then the closer to release date we got, the less was heard until the last few weeks and all we heard was crickets. What happened? Probably reality hit them in the face. And then like every organization, deny, evade or talk about something else, preferably the next big thing. The beancounters want a return now while the purists and artists would like to improve this that and the other. Well, without the beancounters, there would be nothing else so they get the final word.

What probably also had many people going was the fact that the same company had done the earlier version of MSTS so the assumption was that this time it would be better, etc. But as was recently mentioned, the same name might be on the door but not necessarily the same talent in the seats.

Now, the sound and fury over there can be quite deafening. Nothing quite like early adopters and enthusiasts whose dreams has been smudged.
