Built between 1911 and 1920 and measuring 44 m (144 feet) high and 188 m (617 ft) long, it is the largest wooden trestle in the British Empire and one of the highest railway trestles in the world. It was originally built by local farmers and loggers for the Canadian Northern Pacific Railway but never completed until the Canadian National took over the line in 1918 and completed it as part of the “Galloping Goose” rail line. Used to haul timber to Victoria the last train to cross the Kinsol was in 1979. It is now part of the Trans-Canada (walking) Trail System.
