Kickstarter Rewards & Gold Stars

Sorry for the confusion. I can see now that you are saying for a $40 pledge you don't get the full game, just a future discount on the game. What you get is $40 worth of value now (an FCT worth $25 plus $15 for DLC), plus a future 35% discount on Trainz in the future (so say another $40-50 or so to pay in a year). This would bring the pledge total close say $85 (since why pledge in the first place unless you plan to buy the end product).

I appreciate your input, and your deep questions will certainly be answered. As I have said, not everything will be announced prior to the project start since we want everyone to visit the page in two weeks time and make their pledge decision based upon the project details, not forum snippets.

Btw, we sell copies of Trainz 12 right now for $40 http://www.simulatorcentral.com/index.php/trainz-simulator-12.html so I'm not sure on the source of your demographic data that suggest 65% of people here don't have $40 to pledge on helping us make the best ever version of Trainz.

My 65% figure is based on direct observation of the participating market, and I said that 65% of the current "promised Pledges" would fall-through at the $40.00 minimum amount, not that 65% of the forum participants counld not afford to purchase an item for $40.00.

--Based on the number of replies such as "I'll pledge my dollar", or "count my $10.00 in", etc.

Also take in to account, the same $40.00 spent on the same product, but worded differently is many times not so easily justified in these "still tight" financial times.
--Much easier to justify $40.00 for a finished game, than a $40.00 donation based on the promise of a game.

Admittedly, semantics, but true non-the-less.

As for my comment about "...not donating a penny until...", I guess I was a bit abrupt there, left me rephrase to say; I'll try to keep an open mind until the discussions are closed, and the "meal is on the table".

I think it's not that uncommon for KS pledges to allow you to 'pre-order' at a price that is below that of the RRP. Obviously, we will have to wait and see what N3V have to offer. You may get TANE at $30, you may get TANE and a lifetime FCT for $80. Who knows, I don't ..... until November 13.

When one makes a pledge it's obvious the pledger is interested in the end product, so for me, a subtraction of the pledged amount from the final retail price when T2 hits the shelves would be good enough for me.
Any other forms of appreciation by N3V, if the pledge is higher then the retail price, is fine of course, but the biggest appreciation is getting a state of the art game in the end with as few bugs as possible when released. :hehe:

Best post on this topic I've seen all week.

Reward ideas (not original pinched from other KSs):

Mugs
T-shirts
Multiple copies of product
Name some element of the game (drivers etc.)
Beta access (I know this isn't going to be universally popular)
Meet the team (and berate them ;-)
English/Australian dictionary (I may be getting silly here) :)

I don't whether I will pledge or how much if I do but I'd say at the very least your pledge should somehow be applied to purchasing a first copy the finished game be it percentage off up to receiving the game for free, ahead of general release. perhaps also offering all pledgers the option to buy subsequent copies of the game at a discounted rate. As for extras, I'm not one for memorializations or stars next to my name, maybe a selection of items from FTC's to special content, either selecting from a list of "members only" items, custom made items, or gift cards at N3V partner sites. Some of the items could even be railroad related but no limited to the game itself. I would have several options, whatever you decide as people need/want different things.

Or you can do like NPR and give everyone a tote bag.

ETA: Welcome back Ed. :)

I find this whole idea very interesting but it is pretty much an altruistic act we are talking about. That said I would just like to make the small point that many of us who are committed to Trainz already have lifetime FCTs so that's not likely to be a reward to incentivise me personally. I think I would much rather see a far more open company that treats its customers well. The Trainz 12 SP1 wait was far too long to wait without any communication and it did not improve my experience when I eventually installed it. I would be more likely to pledge above the purchase price if there was some commitment to talk to us all in a more open way and on a more regular basis, not just when you want funding. I will commit some money as Trainz has much potential if it is developed and I will get my enjoyment from that but how much really depends on what the customer engagement is like rather than rewards. Just my tuppence.

Before i pledge anything to N3V, you need to un-ban me from the forum. Or will you insist on your two faced business model of taking my money with one hand and denying me full support with the other ?

Yeah I'd have to say that ultimately, if we got a really great new Trainz, with a good selection of new features while making it still reasonably accessible to a wide range of users from a company that shows it's dedication to it as more than just a profit making item and stays engaged with those that helped get it done, that would be reward enough.

... Just my tuppence.
I'll see your tuppence and raise another. Trinkets and other paraphernalia are of little interest nor another FCT (already a lifer) but some commitment to attend regular townhall style meetings would be welcome.

A yes, threats and insults, that will win friends and influence people.

I would pledge $50 for say newsletter, beta access + copy of end product......and throw in 1 years FCT.
I would not be interested in mugs,t-shirts ect.
Seems a fair deal.

The point here is not what is a personal preference, but what might entice some to part with their money and offer support.

I don't see personal preference?Of the many titles i've supported via Kickstarter in the past depending on how much you pledge, that's what ALL of the titles
offered in return apart from the FCT.

It has to be made clear from the very start what is being offered in return for XX amount of cash pledged as shown in some sort of published table and what
benefit you get from XX amount of money, the new ELITE (which iv'e backed)is a perfect example.

So no,it's not personal preference ....more like common ground that Kickstarter titles share, whether it be early access or a copy of the finished product.

The point is exactly that. You can't determine what might entice some to part with their money without finding out what their personal preferences are.....then grouping all those preferences together to find out which ones are similar.....it's actually those who are trying to guess what others might prefer that are missing the point.

With that being said, how can they refuse to un-ban you, you smooth talker, you.....
