Pardon the sort-of off-topic, but I've always been curious - what is the purpose for the bright paint on one end of certain hoppers?

It denotes the "B" end of a railcar, (where the handbrake wheel and all the brake portions and reservoirs are located), and the rotary coupler end.

-Its not really for show, just an old beat up 92 Subaru Legacy SS. But its fun. Did a scca event last month, go on weekly cruises, work on each others cars, etc.
-Mine is on the far left, next to the blue car.
