JointedRail stuff [screenshots/renders]

Correct. Now try and sell something with zero support and see how well that goes for you.

Please consider the quoted remark in the context of the actual conversation, which is regarding a) retired products and/or b) freeware. Even Kevin has stated (and it is widely accepted) that freeware should not have technical support and it is only out of JR's goodwill that they do. If JR started selling unsupported payware rest assured more people will lash out faster than I can fire up Firefox; your statement is invalid, there is nothing to be sold here.

Kevin, there is no limit to human stupidity. Personally I'd just ignore and/or block the idiots who request support for content that is clearly labeled unsupported, but this is just me. It's JR's decision how they run their business and if I do come across a product that is no longer supported as N3V has done with their DLC, then I won't get to run it that's all. Regardless, thanks again for the work you do, JR support has always been impressive.

Do you think it would be possible to have a page or simple list called Recently Updated Products so that folks who don't follow JR updates closely or have missed announcements can re-download their purchased products?

I can do that, I will be making some changes today so let me see what I can come up with.

Thanks,

Mike

Actually there is. Most people seem to expect support for anything we have on our site period irregardless of whether its freeware or payware. You'd be amazed how many inquiries I get for problems with freeware. Now we've said before we don't actually support freeware, but I let it slide and help people out. For the most part I've already gone thru and updated alot of anything with TANE issues to be TANE compliant which will be backwards compliant with TS12 which we support so if you are using TS12 you are in luck.

With that all said we can't keep going back and supporting everything old. Time advances, software advances, we need to keep up with that. This is our decision to move forward with. Unfortunately not everyone will be happy with that and that's fine, we respect that, but this is our decision to make as a team.

We will see on recently updated bits, this may be easy to do on our end.

If you guys could keep a section just for content of your that works in TRS2009\2010 that would be appreciated as I am still looking to get TRS2010EE locally.TRS2012 with it's drm and TANE requiring nothing short of a super computer to run it with it's bugs have made up my mind regarding that.I can understand you guys wanting to upgrade\carry on with the latest version of Trainz and that is okay but not everyone will or can just simply upgrade every time there is a new version of Trainz released.

Thanks

[edit]I have used quite a bit of the freeware content and made work in TRS2004 which is fine for me.Some items like a cab or two won't load\work most likely due to scripting of the fact that my laptop can't handle the detailed cab in TRS2004 anyway or due to scripting.I am fine that I can't use them...But I have never really needed help to get something from jointedrail to load in TRS2004 anyway which is cool. :D

Unfortunately we can't please everyone here. This was our decision and we will be sticking with it. TS12 is stable and I have zero issues with mine, TANE on the other hand is still a work in progress. You are more than welcome to try to backdate anything you want to use from us to any version previous to TS12, just don't expect us to support doing so. We won't be creating a section or other copies of assets specifically for pre-TS12 versions. We said we were only supporting TS12 on up going forward on January 1st 2015 and we meant that.

Now if we can please get this back on topic, this thread is for screenshots/renders of content not discussion about content support for previous versions.

With all due respect Justin I think you are still missing the point here. If you guys are going to start adding TS12SP1/TANE features to a product, export a CDP of the current one first, dump it in the legacy bin and forget about it. There is no "testing" or "support" any of any sort involved, period.

I have already stated that this will not be done in my first comment on this subject so I am not missing a point. Even throwing the file into another section would still require more work to configure the site for both versions. We can't sell something with no technical support - and as such would and require the lowest version of trainz to be available to test the item and be available to provide support when it was needed. Since we do not support below Trainz 61388 there is no reason that the items receiving updates should not be versioned for that build. This applies to freeware and payware even if freeware isn't officially supported in the technical sense - they will still complain if something does not work.

Regarding the F40PH updates, these are great. Do you think it would be possible to have a page or simple list called Recently Updated Products so that folks who don't follow JR updates closely or have missed announcements can re-download their purchased products?

Working on that. There will certainly be a section for those kinds of things.

If JR started selling unsupported payware rest assured more people will lash out faster than I can fire up Firefox...

This exactly.

Maybe legacy payware could be a thing for CC members? There could be a system for recording purchases and then from that you could organize the legacy downloads according to who's bought what. Would be one more reason to maintain a CC membership.

That is an interesting idea but still requires maintaining yet another part of the site and support for legacy items - STILL can't do it without having some version of old Trainz local on a work machine JUST to support or even check to see if the items work. I will try to explain better.

the timeline would go something like this:

1. I make some update to some item on the site and upversion it to TS12
2. I make a copy of the file or send it to a 'Legacy' portion on the site.
3. Someone buys it and cant get it to work.
4. They email JR and understandably want help
5. We can't help because we no longer have TS09 or 10 to even be able to check and see what the problem is.

or:

4. Someone is angry because we do not support the old version at all

or the current way:

2. I replace the item on the site.
3. Those who have previously purchased the item can get an update; those who can not because they only have TS10 or lower don't get an update. Those who buy/download the item from this point on only get the new version.
4. We support the new update as usual.

I am open to ideas however I will request another thread for it. This space is not intended for this discussion.

It took a few minutes fiddling to get my favourite JointedRail switcher into T:ANE, but it was well worth it. The Alcos are real gems, all of them. Watch full screen and in 1080p:

Very nice work on these SP Loco's JR very nice indeed.

Say Phil, could you share with me how to get the radiator fan (RS-27) to appear below the screen, not floating above it ??
It is correct in T12.....

Hi Dave --

" ... how to get the radiator fan (RS-27) to appear below the screen, not floating above it ... ."

I wish someone would tell me how to do that too!~! I tired but failed.

So I took the more drastic step of deleting the reference to the fan altogether in the config.txt file of the locomotive.

What I can't understand why the fan is in the correct location in TS12 but way too high in T:ANE. And how many other assets will display this problem?

Phil

I have a question for all of those who take screenshots with the engines equipped with ditchlights such as those in Mick's post above. How do you all keep the lower (ditchlights) from coming on while the train is moving? I've noticed this in numerous shots by other folks as well, and I was just curious. I figured either there is a way to do it in Surveyor, or maybe just going into the .config and changing the ditchlight settings or something.

It's not something I'm looking to change, I'm just curious how it's done.

Levi when in game mate i only have the headlights on and don't touch the ditchlight thingy ma jigger, It was only for a screenshot and i am not all that knowledgeable on what lights are supposed to work where i just like the quality of the locos and sum routes i take the pics on is all. Others may have a different opinion.
Cheers Mick.

Well I have the same viewpoint as you on that part, I was just curious how y'all kept them from coming on. Mine lower lights (ditchlights) come on whenever the train starts to move. Then again, it could be because I run 61388 and it happens in that latest version of 12. Either way, the only exceptions to this are the older engines like the 40-2's because they have the "old" scripts on them, I suppose. Thanks anyway!

Hello Matruck. I would like to ask who is the creator of tufts of grass on the first picture. If they are paid, so it is like buying ..
