Jasonbarnos special thread to discuss things one on one with Tony Hilliam

...

In terms of T:ANE releases and TS12 releases, that's not the point. If you will notice, a very, very large majority of content produced for this sim is created in TS12. Yes, it might work in T:ANE, but when content creators use TS12 to create new assets, even when they have T:ANE, it is pretty easy to see which they prefer. Most of the recent projects that I cited have been started within the past two or three months, and are not a case of continued development over a long period of time.

In terms of the CG move, it was widely disliked, but I again found myself voicing the concerns of more than a few who did not vocalize the point.
That is hardly a new situation. When TRS2006 was first released, we were still creating in TRS2004. When TS12 was first released, it took quite a while before native TS12 objects were made.

So now T:ANE SP1 is out. It will take some time for the average creator to get up to speed. I created my own procedural track during beta testing, and since the design specs were not well known there was quite a bit of trial and error. But it was a fun learning opportunity.

Meanwhile, please don't presume to speak for me nor include me in the "people" who you refer to. When I have an issue with something, I can voice it myself.

Don't forget, T:ANE was released a while ago now, and the beta was released even longer ago. The fact that people are sticking with TS12 speaks volumes about the difference in views between what the company sees and what the public sees. Something that probably compounds this issue is the lack of creation guides and creator resources, which is a problem that goes back way further than this. Heck, the small amount we have now is from 2006 or earlier!

I also never presumed, implicated, or directly referenced you in any of my statements, and I most certainly would not include you in that group.

It also means is that the creation process itself is much more complex than it used to be. Back in the day, creating a simple object really was simple. Inefficient but simple to make.
Now the standards require higher quality, LOD, efficient use of resources, etc. A lot of this is being driven by average users who want quality, routes filled with objects to the horizon and also great frame rates on mediocre hardware. Making objects for this paradigm is a challenge, even for the best.

I fail to understand with the dislike that you have for tane why you are still in this forum. When I dislike something to the degree that you do, I remove myself from the thing that I dislike. I don't continue to bring up the same tired points time after time. There are a great many that like Tane and have few problems with it. It is hardly the disaster that you make it out to be. Go back over to crossties and wait for them to actually release anything.

Notice me Senpai Tony, I have defended you from the Big Mean Barno and the upstart Crossties!

THANK YOU FOR BEING SO VOCAL............
You're points are DEAD ON

OMG I'M DONE WITH THIS COMPANY and they will bleed to death if they actually pursue this.........
The mere fact they are going this route and T:ANE dropping to $20 within 6-7 months of release SCREAMS exactly that of what Jacksonbarno is discussing........

If this lady could buy you a beer, she surely would and we could just laugh at this cause let's face it this is ALL ITS WORTH PLACING EFFORT TOWARDS......

This disgusts me SO BAD that I may just buy CrossTies even thought it is connected to an organization that we stand on opposite ends of the universe....... Serious, THAT'S BAD WHEN I AM SAYING THAT....

Normally, I stir away ... but, since it mentioned contents here, I must say, with thousands of contents at the DLS, Martin's above statement is 1 million % on the mark!

There's a learning curve with each product release! The content got to be better then before, etc .. etc .. LOL

Kind regards to all ... vent, guys! LOL

Why is it whenever a new product is mentioned, people go into a hissy fit over it?

This stuff is all in the future - a year from now and not happening today, tomorrow, or in the next minute. Sit back and see what transpires in between. We still have T:ANE, TS12, TRS2009, and any other version to play with. It's not like these are going away when this new thing T:ANE-Next or whatever it will be called comes out.

I'm curious about this poll I've been hearing about...I don't recall being asked if I would buy T:ANE2 (or whatever) if it was based on a subscription model. Obviously, I'd have said "no way" to that.

Not to mention my content license forbids my content from being used with or ported to such a product.

Perhaps because by the time it's ready it's too late to have a hissy fit. Now is the time to have hissy fits if you think N3V are committing commercial suicide (not saying they are, just saying that this is the time to affect furture planning, not in the future :-).

Yes but every time a new version of Trainz is announced, whether that was TRS2006 coming out after TRS2004, the world came to an end. This to me is just another one of those times, besides, perhaps I'm being selfish, but I look at it this way. I no longer look beyond a few months at a time.

If the product doesn't pan out, we still have our other options. Remember there's now offline mode for all products...

John

Tony, I appreciate you and your companies' work every single morning. I think "Thank God for Trainz!" every afternoon. Do I think this new trainz thing is interesting? No, not particularly. Will I buy it? Probably, almost certainly. Will I subscribe? Possibly. Why? Because I like playing with trainz and as long as I have a sort-of functioning game were I can play with all the wonderful content that has been made by all the wonderful content creators over the many years I'll be happy. If I can't get the older content working I'll be very unhappy. Why? Every DLC for the last year or two have been modern locomotives, I'm not interested and I'm not buying. Now if you put up some updated ANL locomotives... $$$

:D

Anyway Thanks for all you have done. Carry On!

I do - not all customers are created equal, but every dollar spent by parent's of 9 year old train fans is equal to every dollar spent by anyone else. The "younger train fan" is a significant slice of our market, and that is why you should care - as every sale adds to the bottom line which gets reinvested into future development .

I call bull**** on this in many regards because if this is your niche market then I heavily suggest all your Payware moving forward is Toy Trains and Thomas The Train Talking Engines.......
Your source overall is from adult customers who utilize this as a means to afford to continue a train modeling environment in the virtual world....

Out of pure respect of the young child, I will not comment but funny how a child asks for something and you bend over whereas the adult market says we need this/that and you say OH WELL....

I may as well ask, under your grand plan, how do you propose we pay the wages for the next year, 3 years, 5 years?
.

Deliver a sound product and in the process of development you keep you mouth shut so people do not feel as if they just got ripped off......
DLC FCT's are almost forced upon people given the past structure of the multiplayer format and that the slow bandwidth timeouts prevent most people from completing a large file download.....
THIS SHOULD SUPPORT YOUR STAFF and given there was a 33% increase what are you doing with that increase?

Announcing a new version right after SP1 which basically did FINALLY give us what Kickstarter guaranteed, you pull the controversy card to stimulate discussion that otherwise does not benefit the consumer nor the organization that is doing the development as this is significantly adding to the stress of such development.......... Use your head Tony.........

"Fix the product first" would be the expected answer. Well we're working on that - but not exclusively.

Well there's your problem not being able to support wages

we needed some pain up front to make the big gains in the end.

I suggest you plan for both pains in the front and pains in the rear just like what you do to your customer base....
This platform will NOT GENERATE the revenue you think it will, but you will "CLOUD" the truth....

John, oh dear John, sir ...

The only time I recall no issues at all from the community expressing their opinions negatively was from Trainz .... Ultimate Collections ... to Trainz 2004!

When Trainz 2006 with the first CMP+ that's when folks started chatting, and it's been like that ever since.

I do agree with you, totally, sir -- I briefly read through the thread, and it's, well, basically same old stuff like before ...

Honestly, I give Tony credit for spending his time in auguring his point!

Tomorrow, folks. is long way out there ... Who knows if trainz still in your blood, or you're still around in this world -- Just let the cards fall as they please, and if Trainz "Next" not your cup of tea, well, don't get it -- but to judge things now is not fair to N3V ... this is your their livelihood.

Kind Regards
Ish

Totally agree.

The world is not caving in folks.

Tony, I gave you a clear lists a few posts back. If you would actually hear/read what I have to say then maybe you wouldn't have missed it.

I would love to get Trainz Next... after everyone else beta tests it and makes sure it wont brutally murder my computer. I was super excited about TANE, but held off on buying it first because of money, then because of the reviews. We dont necessarily hate you guys or TANE, or even the people here on the forums. But what we need is reliability. PLEASE, PLEASE I BEG OF YOU, TAKE YOUR TIME with Trainz Next. Separate the production teams of Trainz Next and TANE that way we can have a dedicated team to each. I can speak on behalf of the entire community, supporters of TANE or not, that we would rather have a game that runs well and plays well take 4 years to make than have a bug-ridden game that takes 2. Thank you for your time, and please take this into account.

So true there John I never understand why poeple react like that? Plus for some reason I wonder why there are users here with no Trainz version installed are suddenly appearing In this topic and simular ones like this one?

OK everyone, lets stop the personnel stuff, it just winds everyone up and doesn't get us anywhere. Let's do what Tony asked and use this thread to make bullet points on what doesn't work. That way we might get somewhere.

1. Disappearing trains
2. After editing/creating a route surveyor for a long period causes it to crash to desktop
