Is your update necessary ?

Day do doh dont day doh
With the welcomed DLS clean up now underway, is it really necessary to download every single asset update ? I have seen posts from users saying they do a daily asset update, what for ? Why not just download the assets that you will actually use.
I have absolutely no interest in non UK content, so will not waste time & DLS access downloading updated assets i will never use. If i have, or may have used non UK stuff on a route, i will check each route for any content updates & only then download.
If everyone did this it may help us all to get better download speeds & access.

It's best to concentrate on the ones that are actually reporting as faulty on your version oF Trainz first, then deal with the others after.

You can do this using a search combo:

LOCATION: LOCAL
FAULTY: TRUE
OUT OF DATE:TRUE

Faulty items only show when opened for edit, but can still cause issues in ts2010 which is why the DLS clean up.
As in my post its best if we only check for updates for assets we actually use . Some 09/10 users are downloading all updates as they are uploaded, regardless if they use that asset or not, clogging the DLS for others & probably slowing download speed

I agree - but if an asset is shown as faulty in Content Manager, it is best to update it, as it can have a negative effect on Trainz if not dealt with.

 Guilty.

I download all updates daily.

My TS2010 folder just hit 50 GB, 1700 locomotives, 3200 rolling stock. I don't know what half of it even looks like "in game". But I may need it, better to have and not want then to need and not have.

But since I have a FCT there is at least no added load to the free side of the house.;)

A point about built-in content. As we know 2010 is programmed to ignore errors in built-in content until you open them for edit when the errors will show up. At the moment about 50% of the updates seem to be for built-in content. If one downloads these then your Local folder size will increase but, as you cannot remove the obsolete built-in items, your hard drive free space will decrease. It is a point to remember if you are short of free space.

One thing about some updates, is they are for some really old content that i no longer use, so i wont be updating them. A example is some of the old textures. Am surprised how many still use them when there are now higher definition ones to use, spoiling many a good route/screenshot.:'(
