If other content creators like myself, are being asked to upgrade there current DLS content to build 2.7 by N3V does that mean the end of 2004 compatible content on the DLS ????
Most TRS2004 content should still work in TS12. You need to make some minor changes, like add in a mesh-table if necessary, and add in a thumbnail to get rid of the warnings, but for the most part the stuff works. The only time I've had problems is with animations because the scripting.
Alot of newer content will work in the early version if you are willing to play with it or by luck it may just work as is. My point is that content creators have been told to bring their content up to the 2.7 build standards and if theare are unwilling, unable or unwanting to someone will do it for them.
This does crate one issue for me as over the time, as methods, skills and versions of trainz have improved I have created newer versions of same content and leaving the older ones in situ for the user of a older format of trainz.
For years now assets have had dependencies much beyond 2.6 trainzbuild (TRS2006), likewise with TRS2004, all is dependencies are slowly being updated beyond 04 trainzbuild ... You must learn to backdate assets, and all their 1000's of dependencies ... Either that or upgrade to 09, 10, 12.
TRS2004 and TRS2006 will continue to work forever ... as long as all the assets and their dependencies are on your hard drive.
Bot some content gives red ! errors in 12 which are not easily fixed, like Magicland's C424 Alco diesel locomotives, the mesh needed fixing, I asked about it a while back and somebody fixed the mesh for me, I have a locomotive with the fixed mesh that works in 12. So for other road names of the same locomotive, I need to replace the faulty mesh file with the fixed one and rename it to the name of the mesh that I'm replacing.
cascaderailroad said something that got me thinking:
he said that trs04 and trs06 will work forever as long their assests and their dependencies are on your hard drive. ok, what happens if your hardrive crashes? then you out out of luck; then you will need to buy one of the latest versions of trains.

If you backup anything you don't wish to loose on a separate drive or DVD's, CD's etc you won't ever loose it, ideally you keep 2 backups on separate media in case a backup fails.
It amazes me over the years how many people have come to me with screwed up PC's who never bothered to backup any important data.
