Is this laptop good fro Trainz 2010?

Not really, no. It needs to have a separate (discrete) video card. I've seen a few of these popping up lately. I helped a friend buy an HP dv7tse last night. The "quad-core" video option is a fully-separate video card; the other options offered are supposedly "switchable" between integrated and separate video. But that's around 3 times what you're looking at here.

Lenovo has the Ideapad Y560 which has fully-discrete graphics, drivers for XP rollback if you need it, and can be had for about $900 out of Tigerdirect for a base model. My only gripe is it comes with PC8500 memory (though the sales documentation says 1333mhz..but 8500 is not 1333mhz) but there's a big price difference between that and the HP with discrete graphics.

@Diesel9: I note you only have TRS2006. If you have any problems getting that to run on ANY laptop, the first thing you will be told is "we aren't supporting 2006 any more" The second thing you will be told is "we never supported Trainz on a laptop anyway". I'd go for the laptop that Tomahawk368 put in his post. At least it has a good graphic chip set.

Don't get an HP - my first motherboard lasted a month and the graphics card packed up after 2 years and couple of days. Four recommendations from a UK mag for 'best gaming laptop' in order of preference: Alienware M15X, Asus G73jh, MSI GX740 and the Mesh Edge DX. Best value for money would seem to be the MSI.

I'm getting a Dell XPS 15, but that is probably out of your price range although it does depend on how you configure it.

In general, is Dell the brand to go with to play Trainz? and i'll be upgrading to 2010 if 2006 doesn't work on the laptop

What is your budget? I only ask because I can find you some wicked machines if I only knew your limit.
Also, never go for name alone. Like, don't buy an HP just because it's an HP. Same for Dell etc etc.

Dell is the one I chose because it has a good spec and can be configured to exclude stuff that isn't important for Trainz.

I actually reckon Apple, with Bootcamp installed, is the best, they have great specs, and I run high detail routes with draw distance maxed out and all settings too the max

I have a Dell Studio 1747, I7, 4 GB RAM, ATI HD 560 1GB graphics card, 17in screen. It handles TS09, but I can`t max out the sliders. Laptops are OK, but if you go that route be prepared to pay out the cash and not get the same performance your money would get you for a desktop.
