Is there something about me or the way I am that some members simply do not like?

I would not worry too much about popularity from some when you have the respect from most. Always one of the first to answer with helpful advice but perhaps some of that speed sometimes results in a misreading of the question.

It is wonderful that you still have the patience to answer what may appear to be the same basic questions but as a wise person once said, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. If you don't know, then you don't know. If all someone does is point that out, then who is the dummy? Glad you're not one of them.

So keep up the good work. Trainz is a better place for you being here. :)

Shane, personally, I think you do a lot of good on the forums, it's just occasionally that you may just post that one times too many on the same topic.

"Do a lot of good" would be an understatement. I can't imagine the amount of time and effort he has put into creating his numerous tutorials (and paying to host them too) for the various aspects of Trainz, which I am sure have helped many members in one way or another. "DirectX update advisor" or not, I'd say Shane is an asset to the community and I'm grateful for that.

Thankyou to those who posted since my last response - I do appreciate the responses. I still want to help people where I can, whether it's a Kickstarter related issue, or whether it's a technical or content issue, or something else.

Shane

Shane,

You are fine - don't sweat it. I have been around these forums a long time and there have always been a few idiots, it' not really any worse than it ever was. As long as you are happy with what you are posting then don't worry about anyone else. I have often found your posts helpful too so thanks as well.

Bob

Don't worry Shane, you're doing a great job! It's often the case that when people criticise, it says more about them than it does about you.

Paul

Shane: You are top notch..Don't let anybody tell you different..I always look forward to what you have to say about a certain subject or answer one of my questions.Thank you..

Shane, there are few on these forums that are more helpful than you. Don't let a few Dorks upset your game. I've no doubt you're on Santa's 'Good' list, and well earned , too.

Shane. You're a huge asset to the community! Helping so many it would be impossible to exceed every single person's expectations. Your time invested here is very valuable to the community.

Moderators - if this is in the wrong pace, please put it in the right place.

Hi Trainzers,

I didn't want to have to post this, but it's become necessary.

I've noticed in a few threads lately that users have been negative towards me and a few of my posts (and at one point even behind my back in response to another user), which is making me wonder if they simply have something against me, whether it's simply something wrong with my posts.

I realise that I can be a bit negative at times on controversial topics, but that's partly due to the fact that I have problems recognising what people are trying to tell me (for example if it's unclear), which I believe may be a part of my autism.

Please be honest with me if you have a problem with me or something I have posted, as I don't want to fall out with anyone here, and want to understand where I am going wrong. It may be that I am misunderstanding the point of some posts, which I can only apologise for. I want to be respected for what I do here and in other forums, and being able to understand where I'm going wrong will help me with that.

Shane

Hi Shane.

Let me start with, if I have said anything publicly that has made you feel "disliked", I am sorry for that. I do not believe I have, but I can remeber a few times I did have something to say, I just thought that I had kept it to myself, and moved on.

To directly answer your question posed, from my own point of view; I sometimes get the impression that you post frequently, with duplicate, if not identical, information (even to your own-self, sometimes) just for the sake of posting, and/or increasing your post count.

What you post is generally helpful, and I have never seen an instance of you being out-right mean or disrespectful to anyone, even if they deserved it, but you do have a tendancey to seem to need to have a say in just about everything. I know your Signature says you are not a part of N3V, or any form of Moderator/Administrator on these forums, but many times, you come across as either being an N3V employee or a Forum Moderator/Technical Advisor, or trying to be. I find this aspect of your postings upsetting.

I hope you understand, I am trying to answer your question honestly, out of respect for you, because I too think that "in the whole", you are an asset to these Forums, but, again out of respect, I do not want to just stroke your ego, and act like nothing is amiss.

Also, please understand, I am not judging you, as many times, I myself, have gotten overly excited about a topic, and posted way too many times... Such as when Kickstarter went live, I got on a roll of replying back to just about every post in the first two threads for the first week or so...I finally was able to see that I was doing exactly what had bothered me about other folks...posting way too frequently, and acting as if I had some authority that I did not. Now I know that the information I provided was correct and true, and I was helpful to many people, but it was not really my place to "help" people in place of an N3V representative, and I have tried to curtail such activity.

"Participation in a discussion" is very different from "Representing facts of N3V products", my only suggestion would be to ask yourself; "Has what I am posting already been said?", and "Am I giving the impression that I am affiliated with N3V, even if I say I am not?".

Since we are being sincere, and honest here... I think you will understand my little message:

Thankyou for your honest comments KingConrail76. It does help me see where I'm going wrong, and where I can rectify things. It's very difficult to be able to provide help in certain areas without appearing to be part of N3V (which of course I'm not (which is clear in my signature), although I would love to be).

I will bear it in mind though with my posts though.

Coincidentally, the reason I end up having to post the same information over and over sometimes is because several people seem to ask the same question or having the same problem. I should really have an FAQ thread which I can point people towards for things like that (if no-one has a problem with that).

I also want to help N3V out by dealing with simpler problems if I can (to try and reduce the load on the Helpdesk), but it's difficult to do so if it makes me appear to be part of N3V.

pdkoester - looks an interesting video clip there. I must watch that at some point.
