Is it time to limit unregistered users?

I have the strong impression that originally, guests were limited to a general topic forum and the screenshots. Other forums (fora) were not accessible until a serial number was registered. Has anyone tried to see what access they do have as a guest?

I just did and all I could access were the forums in the Mainline section and the screen shots. All othere were not shown or marked as private. Isn't this what you are looking for?

Yeah, but when they are able to post in those subjects, when they visit for the pure satisfaction of being evil, (as some former members brag on different forums of being unstoppable, having hundreds of aliases here (see...Euphod's Dildo, , 22 Alpha, and the like) and posting whenever and whatever they please, it can be tedious. I propose they cannot post until they purchase and register a copy of the software.

You mean like this forum....? Those who register for this forum but not a serial number are restricted to only certain forums....after registering a serial number they are given access to other forums. What would happen in your other forum if a newbie started spamming? Would probably be removed...just like the WoW spammer was here....it's not an epidemic....just let it be...

No the restriction is to the newbie section only you can only read outside this section .

Most of the people who spam our forum are in large part, disgruntled members. For whatever reason, they don't believe that they should have been banned and re-register in order to attack and disrupt the forums and generally, make life miserable for mods.

It takes time to recognize who they are, and re-ban them again. A lot of the time, it's done before most of you realize it.

If you see something odd, or know that something is wrong, don't participate in the thread. That's exactly what they want you to do. Report the thread, put the user on ignore and you'll be surprised how fast the aggravation disappears.

I'm with Ed. I'm all for guest being able to view the forums, but not being able to post until they purchase and register a valid copy of Trainz.
I may be mistaken, but a member can register up to 5 user names. I'm not sure why someone needs 5 user names on the forum unless they're trying to fool someone for some reason foreign to me. If this is the case, limit usernames to just one.

I'm sorry how do you mean? Do you mean those who haven't actually bought a Trainz game, but have an account? In that case i agree. I'm trying to solve genuine problems with the game and CMP and i get like 300+ views, but only 2 or 3 answers. I can't believe out of those 300 people not 1 of them had anything to sat about my problem.

Seriously,, I propose that those without a registered version of Trainz may be a guest upon the forums, able to read every forum to decide if they want to purchase Trainz, but unable to post until they have registered a version.

That's my story, and I'm sticking with it...

That about sums it up for me too !!! "No pay" - "No play" - "No posting" That's one of the few ways Auran can annoy the "pirates"
And there's plenty of them out there... (A quick clance at some of the "pirate sites" comfirms that) !!!

Then how does one wishing to purchase , inquire about Trainz ask a question ?
They must be able to read only , the General forum , and be able to post on a specific forum ( " Inquiries by unregistered members " ) , which would be monitored prior to the post being listed .

Why would I have buy anything to ask a question. Indeed, why would I buy at all if I can't ask a question. Shall we go back in the forums and find out how many of you asked questions, before buying?

I would suspect a few at least.

Lighten up. As well as a source of communicating ideas, these forums are also a sales tool for Auran. I doubt that they have any plans to shut down that aspect of it. If you don't like the questions, sigh and roll your eyes, and wander off to another part of the forum. I'm not ready review people's post before releasing them. How would you like that done to your own 'registered' posts?

How about a BBTQ (Before Buying Trainz Questions) section? It's where people who may want to buy Trainz ask things about it (Like which version, CPU specs, and all that). Does that seem reasonable?

Maybe we should require hazing of new unregistered members. For example, the first 25 posts a new member cannot use the letter "r" in any of the posts.:hehe:

Its not that difficult to make a whole post without using the letta agh, I don't think anyone could last longa then a few posts though
