Hello everybody,

Is it possible to paint just 1 square of the grid?

If it's possible, how did you do it?

Thank you

Best regards

Kurt

As far as I know, this is not possible as textures for ground cover do not have clearly defined edges. I woiuld suggest using GMax or Blender to make a 10-metre (or 5-metre) square 'slab' of minimal height, perhaps 0.05 metre, and giving this the texture you want for your one grid square. It can then be used as many times as you like!

If you have problems doing this, let me know.

Ray

Hello Ray,

Thank you for your reply.

Well then, this will be the perfect occasion to install Gmax and start experimenting with the program.

Hopefully, I will succeed, in making a square. :hehe:

Best regards and have a great 2012.

Hello Kurt

My mention of GMax is because that is what I use; others recommend Blender but at my age I don't want to start learning a new program!

A simple box like this would be an ideal first project - but make sure that if you choose GMax you use it via 'Trainz Asset Creation Studio' so that your model can be directly exported to Trainz.

There are several tutorials available if you need any help - or you already have my email address and I would be delighted to answer any questions.

If you choose Blender, there are many creators who can help with that, too - but not me!

Thank you for your good wishes for 2012 - and I wish you a very Happy and Fulfilling New Year.

Hello Ray,

Thank you for the info.

I have some Gmax tutorials available - but didn't read them yet.

I already have your emailaddress ( ref Belgian trams ).

Thank you for new year wishes.

Best regards

TRS can only 'paint' on the vertices of the terrain, so really where each surveyor gridline intersects. because of this there is no way to get a hard edged texture inside a grid sqaure.

Kurt

You'll find two excellent Gmax tutorials for beginners at this site: http://trainz.christrup.net/TRS/tut5.html I used them to get started in Gmax.

Don't be afraid to ask for advice in 'Content Creation Support'. There are a lot of members there who are anxious to help out.

Joe

Hello Joe,

Thank you for the link regarding the Gmax tutorials and advice tip. Will need those Gmax tutorials designing for beginners - I wasn't any good in technical drawing at school :hehe:

Hello norfolksouthern37,

Then I'm having a real problem for detailed texturing :( .

ok - I will have to change the way I want to build my first route. First the major parts and hopefully something will pop-up to do detailed texturing afterwards.

Best regards

It may be worth the time to investigate Blender. It's fully supported and upgraded regularly. Some content creators find it easier to learn/use.

Do you just want exactly a texture 10x10 meter (one grid)? If yes, forget the following.
If you ask for texture with sharp sides (no melting out) then try some of the following kuids: 159473:30205:1 (grass panel 50X70 m), 38793:2700011 (concrete 6x12m), 122285:1012 (AJS Terrain Spline 20x05). Or click down at "my content": I have there ground-texture splines that have sharp edges.
If this is what you are looking for it might be much easier to exchange in these kuids the .tga-picture files with own colors/structures that fit your purpose. You would avoid to use gmax.

Since this is the first route you are building (and for the record, thats also the level I am acting on), lets forget about the solution you have in mind for a second.

My question to you: What is the actual "problem" you are trying to solve? Maybe there is another solution that also solves it thats more standard-trainz-out-of-the-box-route-building without having to jump into self building. :)

Hello steamboateng.

Thank you for your reply.

Gmax, Blender or other. I don't know the difference between either program.
Some users will say - use Gmax others will say use Blender.

Presently, I will start with Gmax, simply because all my Trainzerscontacts use Gmax. Later on, I will have a look at Blender. However, as I said I'm no genius in drawing. So my creations will be very simple.

Hello oknotsen.

Very simply, however hard to do in Trainz2010.
As a young kid ( some 45 years ago :hehe: ), when I received my first drawing book with colored pencils, I was taught to colour the picture and keep within the lines of the drawing.

I would like to do the same within Trainz2010 - that is paint something and keep within the lines  .

Here is a picture of the situation.

garden%20of%20house.JPG

As you can see - I would like to paint the garden of the houses, but I cannot paint within the lines.

Being able to paint just 1 square would solve a lot in several cases.

Even when you don't use a radius and scale, you just can't paint 1 square. :( .

Best regards

The only solution would be a 10-metre square scenery object, or 10-metre wide spline.

I could send you one with for example a grass texture. You could then alter this to your heart's content - and then save it with your own KUID. Make several different ones, by altering the graphic (tga.) in diferent ways. If I make the tga. file larger enough, you could alter it to have lawns, paths, flower beds, just as you wish so that there is a different garden for each house. Of course, each one will add to the number of objects to display in your route and (in theory) reduce the frame rate, but as each would be no more than 10 polys with edges, or 2 as a plane object, this would hardly matter.

All I ask, as always with any modifications of my creations, is for a simple acknowledgement as the original author if you upload any.

Ray

I've just done a simple 10m x 10m grass square - now I need to write the config, test it and then I'll send you a CDP with some more suggestions.

Hello Ray,

Thank you for the assistance. If I would upload any modifications, you may count on it that all info concerning the original author would be available.

But first, I will try to create a similar object myself using Gmax. Afterwards, I will try to create a spline. But that will be for next year - luckily just 1 day to go :hehe: .

Best regards
