Is anyone using 3D Canvas for Trainz?

Using my trusty ol' calculator, I have moved this thing along the 'Y' axis from well below zero all the way up to infinity for the past 3+ hours and it never has budged one iota when placing it in the game.

I'm totally lost as to how to do it.

Thanks,
Rick

He he, I have discovered that I need to move the little 'yellow dot'. (Main Axis) Can anyone direct me in doing this seemingly impossible task? I have spent hours trying.
The documentation is riddled with the misspelling of this word, axis, as axes, making it virtually impossible to search for anything related to it, other then entering the word axes also.

Thanking all of you kindly in advance,

Rick

I have never used anything but gmax, so what I am about to say could be wrong but here goes:

Firstly, shouldn't you be moving your model in the Z axis plane? (positive Z is up in Trainz)

Secondly, in reference to this "yellow dot" thing, I thought that 3DCanvas was supposed to be so much more simple, intuitive, and easier to use than gmax, and therefore the reason for wanting to use it.

It's a matter of learning all the simple things about it and the way they're supposed to be done. It is a very complex app as Gmax is also but it's the way 'things' are done that makes one app easier then another. 3D Canvas is a lot like TSM which I cut my teeth on.

Anyway, gotter figured out, finely.

Thanks everyone for all the help you could give.

New model/asset to be arriving very shortly... With others to follow...

Rick

EDIT: In 3DC, the X axis is right to left. The Y axis is up and down. The Z axis is front to back, btw.

You will need to spend the $70.00 to use 3D Canvas Pro that gives you access to the support forums.

Warning Warning Warning

There are downloads of 3D Canvas in which the trainworks package does not work. On the forum at Canvas Pro I asked for assistance in this matter and a link was provided for Canvas Pro 7.1.2.0 as far as I know this is the only one that works. The person who assisted me is named Hondawizard.

One other point I am still looking for answers on is this, I can not create a texture that has some portions solid and others transparent. The process is different in Canvas Pro and I have never gotten this particular part of content creation to work with Canvas Pro.

On all my buildings I have to create seperate night windows and export them to trainz go into surveyor and see how they line up and than back to canvas pro and tweak and export and review etc. All my railings are modeled completley account can't use a rectangle and have the holes punched out as a texture.

Overall I am very satisfied with 3D Canvas Pro and I believe the capability exists to have textures that are partially transparent and partially solid.

If you search the download station you will notice that the number of buildings I have created is low. The extreme difficulty of doing nightwindows is the main factor it is dragging me down seriously.

If you want to make anything transparent, it's simply a matter of changing the translucent settings in the Material Palette before you apply the texture.
For example, the model I'm working on right now has semi-transparent windows, but the rest of it is solid. I changed the translucent settings before I mapped the windows, then changed it back to normal once I was finished. All of this was done using the same texture.

I'm not sure if that's what you were asking, but I hope it helps.
