Is a reinstall required?

Due to a recent computer failure one has had completely reinstall the operating system.:(

Before one did reinstall the operating system, one made a copy of the entire program file of Trainz 12, thus meaning that every last bit of trainz, add-ons and all was copied to a second hard drive. The copy of trainz 12 which I own is fully registered with auran and bought from the auran store.

Will one need to reinstall it, or can one simply copy the whole folder back to the program files on the main drive? One was hoping that one wouldn't have to reinstall as one seems to think that trainz is not integrated into the operating system, it is just an application which runs on it.

In addition, with one being a student, one doesn't really have time to redownload the install files and reinstall the item, then import all the content from the relevant folders.

Any advice on the said matter will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Johan

Trainz is semi-integrated into the operating system.

It is possible to copy it over as-is, but there are three provisios.

1.You will not have any uninstall facility if it goes wrong, apart from deleting the folder.
2.You may not be able to download items using the Download (Helper) option on the web-based Download Station, although Trainz should create the required key(s).
3.You will not be able to simply double-click a .cdp file to open it in Content Manager unless you manually create the file associations. Same with .cdp2 and .cmpa (Content Manager Archives) files.

So would you advise a reinstall then? also if one did reinstall... what folders does one need to copy to a differnet location to preserve all my content?

One knows that the local folder in userdata is one, but is there another?

Regards

Johan

Normally, yes.

If you are OK with the provisios though, you can still copy it over.

The safest option though is a reinstall.

It varies by timezone. Usually, if you are using the mirror servers they are not normally that busy.

In terms of timeframe, you probably want them as soon as you can ready for reinstalling.
