Installing downloaded contect

I have downloaded a lot of good content from the Download Station. I can't figure out how to install this content. I am trying to install content into Trainz 2009.

Also, I am running Build 48311. I do not know how to download/install more current builds (i.e., service packs). I believe I am still using Service Pack 1 (the original download of the game). How do I update to the latest service pack?

Is there anyone in the Chicago area (north side, or near north/northwest suburbs of Chicago) that I can hook up with to help me in designing a layout that I'm working on?

Thanks so much for any help!

Please reply to me here as well as privately!

I don't usually go to the forums, that is why I asked that people reply to me privately. However, I believe I would get more responses if people replied to me here on the forum.

Thanks.

Where have you saved your downloaded content? You should use Content Manager, 'import content' or 'import CDP' (depending on how you have downloaded it), go to the folder where your downloaded content is stored, click on the item to import, then 'OK'. You will then need to commit it (control M).

Ray is correct there - the only time that it differs is if the content is downloaded using the Download (Helper) option on the DLS, which Content Manager will handle semi-automatically (you may have to click Start on the Download Helper panel.

Also, I am not aware of the build number you have stated - highest TS2009 build number is 44653 (SP4), so you may wish to check it (bottom-right of Launcher screen) as someone can then advise you on what patches you may need.

Please remove your email address from your post, as this part of the forums (the Mainline-Trainz Discussion section minus the Suggestion Boxcar) does not require login to view, hence spammers can get your address. The PM (private message) system can be used to send questions etc privately.

Yes, Shane, I should have mentioned that I was thinking of Download Page rather than Download Helper as the downloaded assets had not installed automatically. I find that the former is preferable - at least for me - as it gives more control on which version (or more than one version) on which content can be installed. More important, it enable a scan of the downloaded folder fo malware before installing.

Ray, How do I determine where it downloads to? When I click on an item in the Download Station, it opens up the Download Cart. I have no idea where it actually downloads the content to (on my computer). I am running Windows Vista.

When I open TS2009, it show this information on the bottom right hand corner:

TS2009
Trains version 3 (Build 38411)

mabspc, this is why I use Download Page from the Download Station so that I can choose which folder the content is downloaded to. I have never used the Download Cart, preferring to download each item separately for this reason - at least since my TRS2004 days when the downloads went automatically to TRS2004/World/Dispatcher/Downloads. And I am afraid I have no knowledge of Vista having always used XP.

All I can suggest is doing a 'search' on your hard drive for an asset which you know have downloaded. When it is found, it should then let you know which folder it is in - and presumably all others will be there too.

I sincerely hope that other contributors to the forum can be more helpful.

By 'Download Cart' I am assuming you are using Content Manager (Download Helper)

If this is the case, downloads using that are installed into the Local folder (TRS2006+), but to actually see the content outside of Content Manager you would have to open it for edit.

The prprocedureor downloading using the Download Helper is:

1.Click Download (Helper) on the download page. (If a page appears saying there is no associated program, make sure Trainz is running as admin if using Windows Vista/7)
2.You may get a Internet Explorer warning if using a later version: click Allow.
3.Once the content has appeared in the Download Helper panel (top left corner of Content Manager), click Start making sure that the message at the top says 'Idle' (if you cannot see the start button, click the arrows at the top of the other panels to minimise them) - during downloading, the message at the top will change.
4.Once it is done, the list should disappear - click the Open for Edit tab.
5.Select all the items, then press Ctrl+A (if there are no items in the list, then you can skip this step and the next one)
6.Right-click the list, select Edit, then click Commit - depending on version, you may need to click Close when it is done.

Commit does not work for me

I have something like 23,310 its that I have downloaded from the dls. They are all sitting in content manager (download station tab). I cannot get any of these items to "commit" (clicking on the item, choosing edit, commit, or any other way).

I installed a couple CMP files, and it seems that I was able to "commit" them, but I can't find them in TS2009. The CMP files I installed were BNSF engine files.

I am currently trying to download everything that is shown in download station (to see if I can get these items to commit properly).

At one time, everything I had in Download station was "commit"ed, and available in TS2009. Then my system crashed (TS2009 crashed, and I lost everything - especially three layouts that I had created that took the better part of 18 months each to complete). I had to reinstall TS2009, and since reinstalling, nothing seems to be working the same as it did before. Very frustrating to say the least!

Items on the Download Station tab are what is showing on the DLS - you have to download/import items before you can commit them - items that require commiting will be on the Open for Edit tab.

Also, if you are running Windows Vista/7, make sure that Trainz is running as admin.

Open for Edit tab

I have downloaded everything in the Download Station tab at one time or another. I am downloading everything on the Download Station tab once again - may take several days to complete, because of the number of items, many of which have additional items (dependencies).

When I click on the Open for Edit tab, there is only one item showing - the layout I've been working on, which for some reason when I saved it the other day it was not able to commit it. I just highlighted it and did Ctrl-M, and it committed without any problem.

Problems with downloaded content

I have tried to commit everything that I've downloaded from the DLS into TS2009. Some things seems to have committed ok, but most of it did not properly commit, or failed to commit. The ones that failed to commit show the following message: "Failed to commit changes to asset <kuid:xxxxx:xxxx> due to missing config file."

How do I correct this problem? Where do I find the missing (or corrupt) config file for these assets? (I'm sure this will be a major pain, as I have downloaded over 50,000 items, and better than 85% of them show the message shown above.

Remove items fro Open for Edit screen

Ok. I have highlighted everything I downloaded, clicked Open for Edit, and Ctrl-M to commit everything. ow do I clear the Open for Edit screen so that I do not try to commit items more than once?
