Important warning about the latest Windows Update - do not install!

Well.... that may possibly explain why I was having issues with my dedicated SSD Trainz drive (NVME) earlier this month. Guess it wasn't a power fluctuation that damaged it, just Microsoft being Microsoft. I just replaced that damaged drive with a new SSD yesterday.

Guess I know what I need to work on this evening....

That sure does explain a lot. Good luck with your recovery and please let us know how it goes. I uninstalled this update even though it hasn't affected my computer.

I'm lucky that I have a Dell-branded WD SSD and I don't put any data on it. Trainz and the rest of my data is stored on external hard disks that are accessed via the USB-C port. If my internal NVME drive dies, I can easily recover and lose very little if anything at all.

I was able to transfer data off of the old drive and onto the new drive last night. So far no issues. I knew it was time for a new drive when a normal database repair takes ~2-3min but running one yesterday took 4909 seconds and the game would not boot....

As I read it, the problem is linked to a heavy write load on disks that are more than 60% used. It seems that following the update Windows continues to write that the disk cache is full.

Some detailled informations about that bug. https://www.windowslatest.com/2025/...-kb5063878-ssd-data-corruption-failure-issue/

As I've read elsewhere : To be on the safe side, don’t install very large files and don’t write very large amounts of data to your SSDs if the August 2025 update is installed on your system—at least until Microsoft provides a patch.

Hope that helps.

My version is 22H2, should I worry? The latest patch available is the KB5066188, idk if that's the one or is it safe to install it. Thanks.

I have that feature in where you get windows updates early. Had this update since dec. of last year, no problems in trs19 last i had it installed. TS09's been giving me satan's underbelly and back recently, it's either the new update or the ol' almost 20 year old program has really decided to show it's age. Strange how many companies choose quantity over quality. (Certain O scale model company come to mind or is it just me?)

I have rolled back the update, but where is the control allowing me to pause updates for X weeks?
