That sure does explain a lot. Good luck with your recovery and please let us know how it goes. I uninstalled this update even though it hasn't affected my computer.Well.... that may possibly explain why I was having issues with my dedicated SSD Trainz drive (NVME) earlier this month. Guess it wasn't a power fluctuation that damaged it, just Microsoft being Microsoft. I just replaced that damaged drive with a new SSD yesterday.
Guess I know what I need to work on this evening....
I was able to transfer data off of the old drive and onto the new drive last night. So far no issues. I knew it was time for a new drive when a normal database repair takes ~2-3min but running one yesterday took 4909 seconds and the game would not boot....That sure does explain a lot. Good luck with your recovery and please let us know how it goes. I uninstalled this update even though it hasn't affected my computer.
I'm lucky that I have a Dell-branded WD SSD and I don't put any data on it. Trainz and the rest of my data is stored on external hard disks that are accessed via the USB-C port. If my internal NVME drive dies, I can easily recover and lose very little if anything at all.
In Microsoft Update configuration ( parameters -> suspend updates ) you can postpone updates for up to 3 weeks.Once you have rolled back the bad update, how do you stop Microsoft re-imposing it?
I don't think this is possible in Windows 11.Or by turning off automatic updates permanently to avoid further issues. You will then have to update manually.
In Pro only (no Local Group Policy Editor in Home).
There are dozens how-tos on Google, Bing, etc.Not easily accessible![]()
I have rolled back the update, but where is the control allowing me to pause updates for X weeks?
