If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

well some improvements were made to engine specs in general. i know that the specs perform differently in different versions. i see them as an improvement in 09.

no scripted signals work fine. it was the scripted signals that made use of improper class definitions that do not work anymore. that is different, because they were made wrong to begin with.

same goes with alpha blending on certain objects like trees. those should never have been made that way to start with, even though auran did them that way too. trainz aside, you just dont normally use an alpha blend in a situation like they were being used. its about time they have recognized this and are discouraging it. they did not stop anyone from doing this, and now with rendering optimized, its biting everyone in the rear.

Good, bad or indifferent I went back to TC because of the trees mainly. Not arguing if they were done right or not but I don't see anything that looks as good as Trunda or JVC's. Sure there is compatibility mode but it runs like a dog for me on 2009, which is on a shelf instead of loaded on my computer.

I'll agree letting it happen for so long bit them in the behind. But, not as much as releasing new versions with backwards compatibility with some serious set backs. If you're going to change, make the change completely, even if it means a new game engine. Trying to balance older content (DLS) with better performance on an older game engine was probably a lot of work, maybe as much as starting over.

Personally I wish they would develop along two lines. The 5m grid and better signaling alone in 09 would have been enough for me if it ran as well as TC without the need for native mode and new content. Thats what I bought it for, not the new content. 2010 could have been a complete break from the older stuff, a fresh new start. Jamming the two together in one sim is probably causing more problems than good at this point, to much blurring. Let the purchaser decide which path to take.

The use of older content at the cost of performance or performance at the cost of some older content. Causes a lot of frustration I think, especially in the same release.

I wish that an option existed to delete assets from the database while in surveyor. I often download in bulk (which is why I bought a FCT) and sifting through the assets in the CM after a large number of downloads is far to tedious for me. The assets that do not work in Native mode in 2010 show listed as red in surveyor and cannot be placed. So if I could just delete them while I find them in surveyor I would not have a list of 30% non-usable faulty content.

Otherwise, I like 2010. I will continue to use 2010. I don't see any point in asset creation for older versions at this point. Native mode 2010 is far to good to bother with older content. Compatibility mode in 2010 runs slow.

Why not just use the "faulty" selection in CM2 search and delete or disable them?

Another point to throw into the mix:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=52477

Look what this poor guy is going through. The very nature of the kuid/CDP system can be bewildering enough on it's own when it works right. Imagine wading into this with no prior knowledge of how Trainz itself works. Just getting content in to work can be a chore. Now throw in all the new error checking. Put yourself in the position of a newbie just learning.

I've been using this program for several years and I'm still left scratching my head at times. I would hate to be starting new and have to learn the great CDP hunt and then add error correction on top of that. Starting to make MSTS look like a walk in the park.

I just got TS2010 and im having problems with the .bin file extension. Does anyone know a website that can fix this?

You should download all files ( 5 ) of which one is an setup file. Run it to install the game. Second option is to burn the five files to some dvd's and install from there.

To be accurate, they were correct to begin with- and the ability to create a tree out of two polygons instead of two thousand was a massive win at the time.

Unfortunately, over the past ten years, the realtime graphics industry moved in a direction where supporting this functionality has become a massive liability in terms of the performance and capabilities of the Trainz graphics engine. We actively decided to phase out support for this technique in TS2009.

The main reason we created compatibility mode was to support assets created prior to TS2009 which made heavy use of this technique.

Built-In Errors (?)

I have been asked if my road truck axles and tires will replace those of the built-in assets. Is there something wrong with the built-in content now?

Inverted Logic

Sounds to me Auran is going just the opposite of this threads title, they broke it so they can try to fix it! I think all they are doing is to make themselves an outdated company! The people that want to stay with the product they have already prchased, will now be forced to find support from websites and other connections other that Auran.

Future

So, as I now see it, access to the DLS will be terminated come september to anyone not having a FCT. And even with one, 04/06 will not be supported (included) in the new system. So does that mean all content of any version will only be available to 09/10 owners?
