Idyllic English country branch terminus: Asburton

I recall contacting Jay about this problem with the footbridges earlier in the year. I ended up just using the scenery ends and readjusting the walkway spline after saving, still a bit tricky though.

I love the screenshots by the way, puts my work to shame and makes me wonder if I should give up using andi's old animated junctions with HP/MP track and move to the bullhead. Seems to add so much more.

I have just downloaded those two faulty ones from the DS. They are the old, faulty ones, but they have the KUIDs of the corrected ones. Something very odd has happened. I suppose it doesn't really matter as they will all be replaced in the next few hours...

Hi chaps, pleased to see we got to the bottom of the bridge issue. I see the revised versions are on the DLS so I'll introduce a corrected version to my layout.

I feel that I've now got a version of the footbridge that I like for Windrush Station - suitably brown, rusty and delapidated! However, I'll take feedback.....

I must thank Jeremy for putting me on to GIMP as, suitable emboldened after the footbridge, I've had a go at weathering the scenery wagons by bobsanders that I've been using on the layout. I've always felt that these were far too 'clean' for my purposes, so now hopefully I won't have to pester Bob to upload weathered versions. Let me know what you think, good enough to go on the layout? If so, I'll formally request Bob if I can upload them.

First - Devizes Sand wagon (note on the left is the unweathered BR five plank - a bit clean!)

Second, two weathered BR five planks and a heavily weathered GW seven plank:

Thanks for that.

This thread, http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?77906-Speed-Tree-by-Pofig&p=1003093#post1003093, reports problems with assets by Pofig. As you can tell from the screenshots of my layout, it's heavily dependent on trees and foliage by the Russion creator Pofig which are only available from his website. I've also used some trees from the DLS which have turned out to be clones of his work and which may or may not have been removed from the DLS (I'm now trying to work out if these assets have been removed.)

All in all a very unsatisfactory state of affairs. There is no question in my mind that the Pofig flora is the best speedtree/3D flora available for Trainz as I hope my screenshots indicate. My layout certainly doesn't work without it and I can't upload it to the DLS unless I'm sure about the availability of the assets either on the DLS or an external website.

It seems extraordinary that we may lose all of these assets. Is there nothing that N3V can do to secure these indispensable trees and foliage for the future use of the community?

Paul (worried)

Don't quite see the problem, Paul. The trees are still available and, as Dermmy and Dave Snow suggested, you can probably get Pofig's permission to pack the trees and distribute them yourself, though not on the DLS.

Just an update about where I've got to with this route. I'm currently seeking permissions to upload assets I've cloned/revised to suit the route. I've already got permission (thanks johnwhelan) to upload some weathered scenery wagons.

The big snag at the moment, though, is that I've used about 20 trees by urman_diesel that were reskins of pofig trees. I used them because they were on the DLS and therefore more available. However, apparently they weren't licensed and so now they've been removed! So these will all have to be identified and replaced with pofig or other flora. Drat!

I am using some jankvis payware flora and I was asked, above, to list what it is. Here is the provisional listing (I'll issue a final listing on release), all should be available from the jankvis payware site http://jvctreez.net/store/index.php

I've posted elsewhere some shots of jayholland's very nice new Billington K Class steaming up the Ashburton branch. Of course, this loco shouldn't be anywhere near Ashburton, but who cares!

Thundering into the southern portal of Windrush tunnel:

Resting under the rather rusty and delapidated footbridge at Windrush. The trainspotters have got something to wave to, though I'm not sure their dad's happy!

Right away from Windrush:

Slowing at Dairy Junction ready to run through Windmill End:

The K Class takes on coal at Ashburton ready to run round the coaching stock in the loop. Unfortunately, the loco is too big to turn on Ashburton's rather small branch turntable.

That's all for now, but watch this space!

Paul

So is there a single pack to purchase or does one have to buy everything on the site?

Thanks John

My recollection (it's been a while since I bought any) is that Jan sells his flora in specific packs indicated by what's in the brackets:
Ag1 - agricultural pack 1
Gr1 - payware grass pack 1
Mix 5 and Mix 5 II - two packs of mixed items etc.

I've posted a message on Jan's dedicated thread for his payware to check that these items are still available. Jan specialises in speedtree items these days and I don't know if he keeps an archive of his old payware items. After the business with the urman_diesel speedtrees, I'm not sure I can stand another 'flora flareup'!

I'll let you all know....

Paul

Luckily I've got all the JVC stuff you posted and since I bought them very recently, they are still available. They are all - except maybe JVC#(Mix5II), not sure if this is packed in the "2010_Module22_Mix5_Shrubs-wildfl-grass splines.cdp" - part of "JVC#2010 COMPLETE payware Bundle", which is only $19 for 705 items.

Btw, as always I just adore your screenshots, Paul. Good luck with the route.

Thanks for this. I suspected Jan might have bundled everything up. Pleased you like my screenshots. Just for you, here's some more!

The Ashburton branch faces stiff competition from the Devon General bus company:

[This is a reskin I've done of the jayholland original. Thanks Jay for giving me permission to redistribute.]

But fortunately the branch keeps on going....

Excellent idea. I must try and get a Miss Marple figure in there somewhere!

I've now checked Jan's payware thread and he's confirmed that all of the JVC payware items are available in one bundle:

Available for the extremely reasonable price of $19 which will give you a complete collection of TS10/12 compatible flora.

I'm relieved these assets are still available!

Paul

Yes, John is correct. Devon General used a dark red and cream. The livery you have there looks like Exeter Corporation....

I've actually had too look at sum of these pic's twice too see if they are real or not..lol. Outstanding work Paul keep at it mate i'll certainly be looking forward to this when it is available and the effort you are putting into locating all the dep's will make this Route even more worthwhile. Great stuff.
Cheers Mick.:)

Lovely old bus but surely, pre NBC Devon General buses were red. Western National were green
You mean like this John?
DevonGeneralredbus.jpg

However, I also came across this picture leading me to wonder if some of their rural services were in green and cream:
daimler50.jpg

In the end, I just went with the one I liked the most - let's call it poetic license! However, if I get time I might try a red and cream one.

Paul

Some good news in that bobsanders has agreed that I can upload some of his scenery wagons as weathered versions. Many thanks Bob!
