Idle Camera Views?

Hey guys,

are there any camera views out there somewhere that are like you are watching the train,

you know how you can look around in a cab, is there a camera view that lets you do that, but on the ground etc?

cheers

Yes, there are pedestrian camera views on the DLS. I like to use the switchtower with the interior view.

Or press 4 and you'll be outside the train and can move around using the arrow keys to position yourself to any spot to watch the train go by.

Yeah i know you can press 4 for a free roam view,

but i want something like when you press 3, how it tracks the train, but i want to look around freely, etc. :)

thanks for the suggestions

I think I know what you mean, Personally I would like to be able to position a camera (as you can for static/tracking cameras) and then be able to switch to that cameras view when I wanted. Currently, as far as i know, you cannot do this as these cameras are triggered by the train you are tracking. If anybody does know of a way to do this please post it.

The best solution I have found so far is to use one of the various camera views based on dummy locomotives (disguised as various objects e.g. a signalbox). You place the dummy loco on a piece of invisible track at your required viewpoint and use the cab view to look around. The touble is there is no easy way (that I have found) to switch to them.

You can find these "dummy locos" on the DLS - if you have problems finding them please post again and I will hunt out some of the KUIDs for you.

Cheers

Also, there is a man you can place on invisible track that you can click on and watch the trains go by. Try looking for "AC MWM Train Watcher" <kuid:213782:5050>

Another alternative, like Chris said, is the "Signal Box with interior view" building which also can be placed on invisible track. You can click on this also and watch the trains go by. <kuid:193148:1198>

Search for Camera View, username -Basti- (don't forget the hyphens) on the DLS. These can be placed anywhere and show up as green squares in Surveyor. It is a good idea to place an object by them so you know where to click in Driver. Having clicked on it you can then switch to view 1 and you can pan, tilt and zoom as required.

Davesnow and Teddytoot,

Thanks for the extra info chaps. Do you think it would be a good idea if there was some quick way of switching to these views other than having to find them on you route and click on them?

One for the "Suggestions Boxcar" perhaps?

Cheers

Chris

You're welcome for my input as well.

kuid# -10:224, by Auran, is an invisible train, aptly named "inv train". In 2009 (and other versions, I expect) you can place it on invisible track anywhere you like. It gives you full "Cab Mode" camera panning, AND you can assign a driver to it, meaning when you want to switch to it, you just have to pull up the driver from your list and click.
