I don't get Trainz Classic?

Since TC hasn't been released yet, things to nit pick about are limited....so I suppose nit picking on the title will have to do....

I know some folks like subways and that is fine but I expect railroads from a railroad simulator so I guess I will have to wait awhile longer.:(

Metro-North Harlem Lline

The Harlem runs from 42nd St. (Grand Central Terminal) to Dover Plains ( about 75 miles) in upstateNew York.

The Harlem Line is no subway line...it is a commuter railroad line run by the MTA's Metro-North Railroad. Metro-North Railroad is pretty much a New York Division of the now defunct New York Central Railroad.

Looks like a heavy rail commuter line to me.
Intreresting but I will wait for a real railroad. I suspect so will many others which begs the question, why did Auran start TC with a RR of such limited interest?

I could be wrong but that would be a first. ;)

The Harlem Line interested me from the start....at this point, there is no way to know if interest is limited or not....I think a big interest would be the promised improvements to the sim with each release....

Well I guess it's gonna be your first then...

The Metro-North Railroad Harlem Line was once New York Central Railroad's New York and Harlem Railroad and the Harlem Line is also jointly operated by Canadian Pacific and CSX Railroad.

To be honest for me it is the improvements to the sim that matter.

SuperFudd: whatever route they started with there would be cries of limited interest from some sides. Personally I would have liked to see the GEML in the but then there would be cries that that would be too limited even within the UK scene and they might be right. I would have liked a UK route but the US, Australian, Candian, other European contingents might not be interested. That would always be the problem for a program with only the one route.

Depends Makeing tracks did it with the Great Eastern route for msts. In 5 years ive never seen a route that looks just like the real thing :)

Visit http://forum.uktrainz.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6227 and follow the instructions listed. This works for me and should solve your problems! Any trouble then please let me know! :)

You may need to register an account first. Do it as the forum is very helpful if you need any help with Trainz. Just make sure that your English writing is good (one thing that does P me off on this site! (no offense to the mods of uktrainz forum as it's their site!)).:D

1. Will this be the last edition of Trainz?

2. If so do you have plans so you don't get stomped by other train sims?

3. Why are we not getting all of are TRS2006 content some of that was nice, Is that why Trainz Classics is less GB + cheeper?

4. If there is a new train sim after Trainz Classics will the fourm header change?

5. I would like to know why we are getting way better train sims but less content

6. Will this Trainz Classics Be a Stand-Alone program or will it have CMP , CCP and all that jive.

7. Do we get any benefits for having TRS2006 and or TRS2004 , UTC?

8. What's Next on the agenda?

9. All 2006 and 2004 problems are fixed... Right?

10. Will there be any SP1 or SP2 for Content , Routes , Etc.

Done now. :)

A thought just struck me which may or may not have been discussed before.

For those who have only have Trainz Classic installed, most, if not all, of the routes on the Download Station will not work.

The new equivalent of CMP in Trainz Classic will certainly gather and install those assets needed by a route that are on the Download Station, but most routes also use many assets built into TRS2004/06.

If these assets are not included in Trainz Classic (remember that it is supposed to be a slimed down version), how will they be obtained?

Will prospective purchasers be warned about this?

Phil

A few points/Q's in my Work experience lunch hour.
1.I've been on 04 for a while. If I was to upgrade should I get 06 as well or insted of TC?
2.Why not keep 04 to create content for those on 04 and making it so it works in 06 + TC. I see a reason for keeping 04.
3.As asked before, do registered users with 04 or 06 get benefits?
4.Why is Trainz Classics cheaper than 06?

Matt

1. Will this be the last edition of Trainz?

Nope, Trainz Classics will evolve over several forthcoming editions.

2. If so do you have plans so you don't get stomped by other train sims?

We have plenty of faith in our new product.

3. Why are we not getting all of are TRS2006 content some of that was nice, Is that why Trainz Classics is less GB + cheeper?

A lot of the content in TRS2006 was nice looking, but unfortunately there was so much content included it was impossible to ensure quality, consistency and error-free rendering.

What we have decided to do is re-introduce the most useful content in smaller stages so that we can ensure that the Trainz code isn't spending too much time working around content errors.

We have noticed a considerable performance improvement since adopting this philosophy.

After another two or three editions Trainz Classics will have more content than 06, and it will be consistent. By consistent I mean that if we include an object it's naming will be relevant to both it and other similar objects. It's functionality will satisfy the basic criteria. If there is a traincar included it will have rolling wheels, commodity loading capability and make use of new features.

4. If there is a new train sim after Trainz Classics will the fourm header change?

What's wrong with the forum header? That won't be changing for some time yet.

5. I would like to know why we are getting way better train sims but less content

Again, less content enables us to have much better control over it all = a better simulation.

6. Will this Trainz Classics Be a Stand-Alone program or will it have CMP , CCP and all that jive.

It has CMP for the advanced users, CCP (for what it's worth) and assorted other jive. Trainz Exchange and Trainz Paintshed have been discontinued.

7. Do we get any benefits for having TRS2006 and or TRS2004 , UTC?

You can import custom content from TRS2004 and any content from TRS2006.

8. What's Next on the agenda?

England, Europe, Australia among others.

9. All 2006 and 2004 problems are fixed... Right?

I have never heard of a game that's completely bug free, but we've certainly made a big improvement over TRS2006, and will continue to improve the platform with each Trainz Classics edition.

10. Will there be any SP1 or SP2 for Content , Routes , Etc.

No, service packs take a long time to produce and don't make a lot of income for the investors. They are a thing of the Trainz past.

For those who have only have Trainz Classic installed, most, if not all, of the routes on the Download Station will not work.

Yep that's right, however I don't see this issue as being black and white. Firstly, Auran announced that after TRS2006 there would be no backwards compatibility at all. That policy was changed when Railsim-Pro was dropped, so we've included a lot more backward compatibility than we originally promised for the post TRS2006 era.

Further, we are hard pressed to find a layout on the DLS that doesn't have at least some missing dependencies with TRS2006 installed. This was the inspiration behind the Route addons, so that intermediate users could enjoy new content without all the headaches.

It's not as though we're breaking something that worked really well.

Cheers!

~R~
