I don't get Trainz Classic?

(Sigh) This has all been explained in Auran announcements and in the newsletters... No legacy content OK? You've got Surveyor to edit the route and CMP to manage and import existing content from the DLS/third party sites/your hard disk. This means if you don't have TRS2006 you won't have Hawes Junction and the Fowler 4F for example.

TC can be thought of as an expansion pack for TRS2006 that adds one or two routes and the content needed for them, or as a standalone package that can be run without having other Trainz software. Actually it's the other way round, TRS2006 is an expansion pack for TC...

Come on guys, it's not that hard to grasp.

Alan/Auran if you read this could you please clarify

Does each Trainz Classic have it's own integral Scenery Designer/Route Editor that enable the user to "CREATE" any route you wish and run it, as well as edit the included routes in the particular Trainz Classic. Also can you add content that you wish to create, to this.
"created" route.

Please note the enquiry is to Auran/Alan.

If the other posts were in reply to mine I no longer have any Trainz versions and have had no active content with trainz for a long while.

Thanks

Barry

TC does have surveyor mode, enabling you to make and create your own layouts. Yes, you can create and add your own content. Yes, these layouts can be uploaded to the DLS to share with the community.

Ahm yes, I thought further ;)

- Is it a parallel installation to TRS06SP1 or does it replace TRS06SP1 ?
- Will "my old" TRS06SP1 deleted by the setup before TC is installed (default on previous Auran installers) ?
- Do I have to secure my "local"-folder ?

Sorry for asking again but these questions occur from three TRS06 (partly german) installations I already done: 2980, 3092, 3243.

- yes
- no
- no

On this PC, I have

Ultimate Trainz Collection
TRS2004
TRS2006
Trainz Driver Edition
Trainz Clasics

all running fine and independant of each other.

CE Trainz (the original) and UTC cant be on the same PC, which is why Lance has the same setup, accept he has CE I have UTC.

I imagine some of the Beta-testers have a similar set-up.

But what about playing routes from TRS2006, what if they use content that was used for Toronto Railyards or Marias Pass Approach? Some of that content is not at the DLS then how do we play the routes in TC? -Chris

Us pensioners take a little while longer to understand;)

So Trainz Classics sounds like Trainz 2007, with different routes to previous editions of Trainz, which apparently also includes previous updated patches, etc or similar to 2006, plus new functions added to it.
Assuming that you can also run the routes in trainz classics that you make in trainz classics, or import into it, which apparently you can.

Yep I think thats it.:) ......?

Chris has a good point their. The built in content for some of those routes is not readily accessible on the DLS. How can you get that content into TC if it's not available?

Bill

That was my point about Hawes Junction and the Fowler - you can't (Actually the Fowler is available elsewhere so you can in this case). Content built in to TRS2006 not on the DLS won't be supplied and you can't then use it in routes made in TC.

Another point is that IMHO the version number will be higher (trainz-build) and that means that routes made in TC will not be useable in TRS2006 (unless Auran have a cunning plan to get around this).

Paul

Close.

You can import content from 06 to TC and use it in TC.

Yes, the version mumber will be higher, though ths has been the case since ver 0.9 so we are all used to that. Stuff made under 06 doesn't really work in 04, UTC etc.

TRS is backwards compatable but not forwards comptable as we know. :D

You could try this approach.

1/. Buy Trainz classics.
2/. Install TC
3/. Have a play with TC and see what its like.

(At around $AU40-50 that's pretty reasonable. Even I could afford that on my pension.)

4/. Import all the nice stuff in 2006 that you like/have corrected etc.
5/. Have play with all your favourite content and make sure your happy.
6/. Remove 2006 and place in draw so that you still have access to the content you didn't import.
7/. Import content that you want from 2004, a lot of which will need to be brought up to scratch in CMP. (you could just check the dls to see if the creator has updated the content first).
8/. Remove 2004 and place in the fond memories draw.:)
9/. Enjoy the new features of your new platform.
10/. Tell everyone else. And ask them what they are waiting for.

Does this sound familiar?

Alex:)

But if you have 2006 with these routes already installed you have the content on your computer in your 2006 set up

just copy the local folder across and everything you have in 2006 will then also be in TC :p

Me thinks that Barry has a strong point there ....

Problem will be with built in TRS2006 content that is used in routes that are not on the DLS.
But the content is locked in CMP so you can not open it for edit and import into TC.

Some content is locked in TRS2006, my stuff certainly isn't. TC will (IMHO) a nightmare for route builders when they build a route in TC, use TC and TRS2006 content and upload to the DLS. Downloaders will need TC and TRS2006 to use the route...

I expect Auran have thought about this though.

The interesting part about how Trainz Classics is being done is that each new one is supposed to be an upgrade. This means that each version will have a higher version number. Each new one is supposed to have new features.

Does this mean that something created with the third version of Trainz Classics will not be useable on the First version?
