I am leaving posts but many meanings.

Here are my thoughts...Leaving means a lot of things................... Over several years with trainz I have had a fair amount of sarcasm.............. First if you didn't fit in with the herd as regards content making the usual comments were ...this is a train simulator you know.....second even when discussing Blender the sarcasm posts flowed in over the years......... The only point that people didn't know was that I have been a pensioner now for a few years.............. So basically make whatever routes please YOU to whatever standard YOU like. Same applies to what you wish to make nothing has to be perfect.....and your routes do not need to include trains as we can have trams, boats, horse transport and airports............and canals and coastal c1800 which are my interests.................... If it meets your own standards then that content is perfect for YOU. I am still of 2 minds myself whether to leave or stay...not really sure whether I am here or not anyway...........as no idea what it means............. Everything is dependant on the turn of the dice with Trainz and what will work in the different versions...as there are so many twists and turns with each version... At present no idea of the standard of content making for trs2009 because if textures have to be to new types by default, or too many alterations I will leave........ Leaving meaning the amount of work, knowledge, know how, required to get items into trainz no longer will interest me so. Staying means spending umpteen hours battling with configurations and content making procedures.......No paragraphs with firefox and java script disabled.......... Barry P.S....Just a guideline for those who intend to leave as keep the options open whatever you may feel at the time.......

Trainz is a program several steps above a computer game. It's meant to stimulate, not destroy you. I'm a pensioner also, I joined the Trainz Community before the first program was released, and I've copped some flack over time. Please take it in your stride. Remember that the people having a go at you are faceless, the may only be kids, or adults who have never acheived much more that being a nuisence in the chat rooms or forums.

Use Trainz any way you want - it's that flexible. You only have to follow the rules if you want to upload to the DLS. If you don't do that, paint your trains pink and have blue grass.

Don't panic about TRS2009. Stick with the version you have and enjoy it. There are people out there using the original release and still loving it.

Just stay in touch with yourself and hang on to the best parts of life. I've said this before, but here it is again:

As you wander through your life, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut and not upon the hole!

Dear Barry,
I am also a retired person - sounds better than pensioner, ha ha - but I stick with this amazing program because it has offered a lot of pleasure to me over the years.
I am not into running trains and collecting goods or passengers, my interests lie in scenery and the way to create it realistically, or as realistically as possible with what is available, and there is an awful lot available by the kindness of content creators.
If you enjoy doing something else then that is fine, it's your PC and your copy of Trainz in whatever variety it comes. For instance mine is still TRS2004. I like it, the version works well for me, as well as is reasonably possible then... again ha ha.
The thing is not to worry about what other people think, as long as you enjoy whatever you do, and that includes posting on here. The forum is an extremely useful place and not everybody is sarcastic, and of course they can only be sarcastic if you take it that way.
My advice, if you will consider it, is to ignore that kind of thing. If you have an opinion you are entitled to it, but then everybody else also has the right to one, so don't get up tight about negative attitudes, if that is how you see them. The only person it hurts is you if you worry, let it go past you and forget the things you are not happy about, life is too short and life will be so much simpler and satisfying if you just enjoy what you do.
Come on, give us a smile....

Sincerely,

Angela

Hey Barry, my dear friend in these forums for so many years....

I totally agreed .... as well as with Angela's statement.... I guess the older we get the more gentle and cool-minded person we become .... I feel that people just overstate what they think trainz is, which is simply a game which one launches and engross themselves into creating whatever they like ... nothing more, nothing less ...

Lastly, I do believe that those who make outrageous statements spend more time in the forum, then they do in using their imagination in the trainz world!!

Tale care

Barry, Are you the guy who so many years ago pushed so hard for Trainz to support industrial activities, particularly around the London Docklands? If it is you, I'm sure your requests were clearly heard by both the Trainz developers and people like myself, who with Pikabird developed the first "ship" object at your request. Trainz has come a long way since those early days and people like "Docklands Barry" have all contributed to what Trainz is today.

John Hi I think I did help to start the movable boat discussions but unable to make anything as took me about 6 months to try and understand gmax so couldn't make anything initially. until Ian (Vulcan) got me started with a mini tutorial on the forum for movable boats....... I remember the first version of Trainz used to grind to a halt in Surveyor after about 10 miles or so.......... My interests developed into canals and coastal, first about 1910 with Liverpool docks but including trams, and docks at about 7 miles, then earlier to about 1830s with Liverpool docks a few miles and the Ellesmere Port Canal complex upriver.......... Currently gone back to 1785 to 1800 and Liverpool docks would be just a mile or so but waiting on the Stentec sail simulator next version and toying with using Trainz and Blender for canals etc....depending on how things develop...Only have TC3 at present.....Barry...............................Ishie Hello to you also as you have been a good few year with Trainz now and become a builder and creator of city content.

Try the firefox addon noscript with version 3 and noscript there is very little danger of Malware infecting the machine.

I seem to be trying to sort out a few things at the moment. When they are sorted I'll try to get back to you and see if we can get some of your Blender items into Trainz.

TRS2009 will be able to use content created for TC3 etc. but has more capabilities in native TRS2009 format. Auran I think are pushing for content that shows TRS2009 at its best but I quite agree with you that content creation doesn't have to be perfect and the standard being requested is probably higher than I care to spend the time and energy creating to.

Hi Barry, you are the guy I was thinking of. I remember you waiting so long for trainz to finally come up with the features you wanted. Nice to hear from you again.

I agree with John Whelan ..."I quite agree with you that content creation doesn't have to be perfect and the standard being requested is probably higher than I care to spend the time and energy creating to."

Some of us don't require the high standards all of the time. Sometimes I'd rather have a sub-standard feature in the background than no feature at all. On the other hand, if I published my layout, it could easily damage the Trainz reputaton as a high standard simulator. It's a one to call.

Hello John(Whelan), I did try the script you mentioned a few weeks ago but didn't seem to work right so removed it............. I don't need Java script for most things and leave it disabled unless really required .............. Regarding Blender I can get single textured items into Trainz with the exporter. If using say 3 textures it becomes more difficult, as I detailed re the North Wales castles I made, even keeping the 3 parts seperated each with its own material colour before texturing....It worked on one of the castles.... So in limbo at present back to waiting......but not sure for what.... P.S. Still havn't downloaded the xml part of the exporter as need to register which didn't work first try.................. Barry

To be honest i don't understand this 'leaving' business people do.. I've been here since Trainz 1.3 and had times where i've not posted for nearly a year, i don't do a whole leaving thing.. I've just lost interesting but I come back..

I don't understand how someone can indefinately leave a forum/community like this unless something really bad happens.

I don't see the point in a post saying i'm leaving!.. maybe I just always forget, but I think noone would miss me anyway ;)

Just do what you want, enjoy the forum ,read it.. no need to post.. Its what I do!

--- Hello John. TC3 came up with the invisible track in driver map which makes all the difference if running anything on invisible track...I suppose I am just waiting for the next version of the Stentec sailsim and dem editor to resume scenery and content making c1800 of coastal West UK.......... Still not sure what to do about Trainz...probably depends on how the exporter eventually works with Blender as I find using a few textures on seperated parts of an object is difficult with it so far.......... Stentec

Hello Barry,
So you use the stentec sailing program too. I tried it, having been a sailing instructor (many moons ago!) and although good I did like the motion of the crew, they moved like a couple of corpses....
Is the new version any better?

But there are some nice period ships for Trainz now, I have some on my Blackheath route, that would do you down to the ground and if what you like is the sea (nothing better in my view) then do that, in fact just do what you want, post when you want or not, as the case may be.
We all have free will and are entitled to use it, we all have the right to do what we want, so do it.
But why leave? I have been 'got at' a few times on here but I let it go past me and get on with my own life. If others can't seem to get one that's their problem, not yours.
If anybody should stay it's you, you have done something for the program while those that grump probably haven't, so just do that and enjoy the company.

Angela

Davie_UCF, actually some parents require kids do that to keep track of them, I had to do it as a kid. So if the parent needs to find the kid, they know where to look instead of wasting so much time hunting for the kid.
Everyone brings their habits with them wherever they go, good or bad.

Hi Angela. I started using the Stentec sail simulator around the time I started with Trainz. Also then got the motorboat simulator which enabled me to make trees and vegetation, etc with the alpha texture. I have a about 12 to 14 sceneries on the Stentec site, for download, made with dem data and content made with Blender... They are working on SS5 which will probably be user friendly, dem data, and many new features. Check out SS5 developmnet log on... http://www.sailsimulator.com/ My sceneries dowload tab at top and user made. The scenery designer no longer works with Vista so just a case of waiting for sailsim 5. At least they are specialists in small boat navigation software and in air and water dynamics so SS5 will be quite good I imagine when it appears........If you want to chat post on Stentec forum as very few left on it these days. Regarding Trainz this thread was just in reply to the stream of posts about people leaving...Not really got started with Trainz much again, except for making the Conway river with Hog and putting my Conway Castle on using Blender exporter and only have TC3 now... Barry

The XML version is the one to use. I'd let it mature for a couple of weeks and then have a go.

Hi Barry,

Greetings from the other side of the world. I'm 72 years young and middle aged really. You tend to get these senior moments now and again when you are all sixes and sevens. They blow away and there is a special satisfaction at our age when you know you can still create something that others can't. Just remember that while there may be 280,000+ Trainzers, only 3,000 or so use the forum actively. And many less are that special breed that make those magnificent trains and the virtual environment we call Trainz in which they remind us of the good old days.

I've enjoyed your contributions and creations for many years now. As an ex-Brit living in New Zealand I dont get overseas as much as I used to when in the Air Force. Trainz is a fascinating program, mindblowing one minute then frustrating the next. Never a dull moment. But it is people like you who think outside the square that push the boat out (pun intended). Some people seem to have forgotten that the future of Trainz at one time was to be an all embracing TRANSPORTATION system. How would trains have fared as a transporter if they couldn't transfer their passengers and cargo to ships, barges, planes, trucks, even rickshaws. I'm sure that much of the produce from NZ travels by multiple transportation modes.

Back to your creations. I lived by the River Thames and have many good memories of things called bridle paths and locks. Horses were used on roads to pull the brewery wagon and deliver milk, and by the river and canals those magnificent animals towed the barges. I always felt a twinge of regret when passing some of the canals that had fallen into disuse and neglect that more use wasn't made of them. With the price of petrol these days who knows how we will get our produce to market. Similarly, I travelled on many of the named steam trains as a youngster, and was invited into the cab by the friendly engine driver to gaze in awe at this fantastic machine. It's people like you that keep our memories alive.:D

I've got another fifty years or so to go before I leave this mortal coil and I hope that I'll still be enjoying Trainz then. I shall certainly still be enjoying your present and past creations, and I look forward to your future endeavours.

I'm 14, a kid and I get loads of people picking fault with me and my work mainly from people in their 20's or 30's who think that they are the best and if it's not as good as theirs it shouldn't be created, But everyones differnet, Many people think that photo-textures are better but I don't like them as trainz is on a whole crist images and seeing a bug splatterd image of a train including windows go past is not for me,

I create content and feel that I i like it it's good as there is always someone out there who will like it too. I just keep my head high and carry on no-matter what although I have doubts about auran creating hings in several versions of little things instead of 1 with it all in.

(By the way: I have also enjoyed your content)

Keep at it,

phil
