How much space is needed for 22?

I have to decide if I want to keep 2017 and 2019 or get rid of 2017 since I no longer use it. Then I also have to decide if I need to add a 4th drive to this machine or not. Van someone give an idea on how much space their 2022 is using?

Another question: I assume that I will be able to import all of my 2019 stuff: assets and homemade layouts into 2022, so can someone tell me where to look for the how-to on doing that? Possibly, when the final 2022 release is done, I could just import everything from 2019 into 2022 and delete 2019??

Thnaks in advance!

Appox 21GB of space for the core game plus (at this time) 20GB for the DLC packs that comes with the game. To be safe at least 50GB if you plan on downloading the DLC routes that comes with TRS22 as we don't know how large the German route will be.

Yes you'll be able to transfer your content from an early version of Trainz to TRS22 :)
Best way to do it is exporting content as cdp files from content manager of one version and import the cdp files into the version of Trainz you are moving to.
N3V has a nice video tutorial on how to do it. Title is from TANE to TRS19 but all versions from TANE to TRS22 follows the same steps. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJQIrI_wgeY

Yep... The app folder alone (base install) for my '19 base install is 15.5 gb - It shoots up to to 21 gb for '22 as you say. Makes one wonder where this will end up if they just keep adding code and adding code to have all the different versions, options, etc.

99% of that storage space is content, not actually code. Code actually takes up very little compared to 3D models.

Yes, I mis-spoke. By "code" I meant digital "code" as in binary 1's and 0's which, of course, the content is also. I didn't mean "application code." A base install is 21 gb and that is what it grabs from your disk whether it is the app code or base/built in content.

I am contemplating putting 2022 on a separate drive. Any issues that I need to know about?

Nope that's an excellent idea. I set mine up on my D drive and my data on my F drive.

Many of us copied our TRS19 data folders to another location and called them TRS22 data then pointed the TRS22 install to the new folder. It'll run a database repair and everything and there will be some faulty content, but the good news is everything you have in TRS19 will be in TRS22. You can then update, any content including stuff on the Content Store if necessary.

We highly recommend keeping your TRS19 install just in case there are major issues with TRS22. Remember, that's still in beta and weird things can happen.

I've just installed TRS22 to my new 1TB SSD and, after copying over the UserData folder from my TRS19 installation I'm staggered to see it's 197GB in size. I actually download quite conservatively from the DLS - how did Trainz end up being so big? (I'm pretty sure my TS12 installation 10 years ago was about 90GB - talk about inflation!)

It's all these new PBR textures.

More seriously though the newer more detailed content takes up more space.
