How long does installing TS12 take?

Hello,

I bought Trainz 12 and I plan on installing it either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

How long would the installation take, counting SP1 and its hotfixes? :)

Hi Timbu,

First of all, I would advise using a free download manager to do this. It makes a HUGE difference. When I did TS2009 without one it took 2 DAYS to download. When I did TS2010 with a free download manager it took 4 hours.

It could be an overnight process or a two hour process, depends on the computer. As for the patches, they are not required, I do perfectly fine without them, but if you want to, same story as above, overnight or two hours.

Hope I could help,

Sorry, I misunderstood the first post. In that case it shouldn't take a horrendously long time to install it. Patches are still the same. I see you already have installed previous simulators, and it shouldn't take much longer than all the others.

Hi Timbu,
If you are starting from scratch, SP1 will still take several hours to unpack itself, the follow-up patches don't take anywhere near as long. However, you will need to bring your Trainz 12 version up to build version number 48249 before you can install SP1 (patches available here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?76786-TS12-Patch-2-(48249)-is-live ). Do not transfer any previous content to your new version of Trainz until after you have completed all your patching (i.e. up to build version 61388). That way you will find the patch install time is much quicker. If you then have content you wish to transfer to your new version, do that via the import content function on your CMP, which, depending on the amount of content you have, can be a long process.

If you are doing a new installation, save yourself all hassle, and download the latest installation files, from your download area. I did that, it installed 61338 version without having any extra steps to deal with. Works a bit smoother, too. I didn't futz around with the settings much or add the trainzoptions.txt file back. At this point, it works good.
