How do I change a KUID #

I have two versions of TS2009 running, one with SP1 and the other with the latest beta patches so I can compare the two. The version using SP1 has all my routes while the beta patch version has just a few.

I created a new route on the beta patch version and it assigned it a KUID number of xxxxxx:1003. I wanted to copy this route to the SP1 version but there is already a route with kuid xxxxxx:1003. How do I change the KUID # in the beta patch version to xxxxxx:102603 so that I can copy it into the SP1 version without conflicting with another route?

Thanks for any suggestions

I have given up on betas but you should be able to open the asset for edit and manually change the kuid number, exit trainz, delete the assets.tdx and if I remember right a chump file, (unfortunately, I do not remember the one, some one will hopefully jump in and correct me!:) ), restart trainz and allow the database to be rebuilt. The new kuid will then be seen.

Alternatively, you can also just open for edit, copy the folder to the sp1 version, make the change there then use the import feature in the SP1 version.

To change the kuid of your item, in CM2 open for edit in explorer, and make the changes of hte kuid to the config.txt, save the changes.

Dont commit it just yet, open the other CM2 and click file/import content and navigate to your other 'Editing' folder where you will find your one with the changed config, txt.

Hope this helps,
Lenny

EDIT: Hmm, Brian must have been typing his message while I was typing mine :)

The map from the latest build will not work in an SP1 installation. They have changed the file format for routes so you cannot go backwards in 2009.

Sorry.:( :( :(

In the main TS2009 directory there is a subdirectory named 'settings', in that directory is a text file named kuid.txt.

If you open that file you will see 1 text line, ther you can change the starting kuid of a new entry. In my file i see:

base-kuid <kuid:43762:1007>

Change the digets after the ':' to whatever you like the next new kuid to be.

Hope that helps.

Actually I had updated my SP1 with the latest patch that was offered which is compatible to a later version I have been testing. I did find out the hardway however about the compatibility issues with SP1 earlier on.

What I found was the easiest in my situation was following nightriders' suggestion of changing the kuid txt file then reopening my route, and saving it under a new name. This gave it the kuid number that I had specified and my problem was solved.

Learn something new everyday about Trainz. Been working with it for five years and always wondered how to change the kuid number that is automatically assigned next in a new route. :)

Thanks again for the suggestions.
