All good so far. The situation in Brisbane is serious but not life-threatening as it has been in other parts of QLD. The office is well away from any problems, but travel is a bit uncertain.

thanks,

chris

So far 78 people are missing and 10 have been confirmed dead.:'( Yes, the office is away from problems... so far. South-East of Brisbane the flood waters are up to the rooves of houses. The Brisbane river has lots of debris flowing through it, and one of the major dams has reached 190% capacity. Oh, Dam(n)! Sory, bad joke!

Hi Chris,

Is this still the case with the Brisbane River expected to reach 5.2m @ 4.00am tomorrow

Cheers

The latest news states that Brisbane is shut down and residents evacuated.
The floods in South Africa caused problems with electricity and water from taps and I therefore am sure Brisbane will have these problems as well.

To all Australians my prayers are with you.
Ps My grandmother was born in Melbourne and emigrated with her parents to SA on 1903
so I also have unknown relatives in OZ

Here in the UK the QLD flooding has been headline news. According to the latest reports (if they are right) the worst is over, with water levels being lower than predicted, still not good for thoses affected thought...

I hope that the all the Auran staff and their homes and families OK, even a minor flood is not a pleasant experience.

The peak overnight was not as high as expected, but they are expecting another peak at 4pm Aussie time today (due to high tides at the same time). Hopefully after that the water levels will slowly subside though it will still be some days before people can go to their homes and business, let alone start to clean up.

Death toll is now 13 with many more still missing.

Best wishes that all Auran/N3V staff are safe and as well as can be expected, as too, all Trainz members and their families.

Hi guys,

Just an update from the front-line :-)

* This morning was predicted to be the worst in terms of river level. It's been a little lower than the initial predictions but there have been some 30,000 homes directly affected in Brisbane. Several thousand individuals are in evacuation centres.

* The situation in some areas of rural QLD has been far worse than Brisbane. As far as I'm aware, there have been no deaths in Brisbane as we've had plenty of advance warning of the floods and no flash flooding. There are currently 13 confirmed deaths throughout the state of QLD.

* Brisbane central business district is closed for business to avoid unnecessary accidents. There is some flooding and power outage in the CBD but once the waters recede I'd expect things to reopen quite quickly.

* None of the Trainz team are directly affected beyond power outages. We don't know when power will be restored, but it's certainly not a major concern compared to what a lot of other people are going through.

Thank you all for the well-wishes and prayers, and please continue to pray for the safety of affected families throughout QLD.

kind regards,

chris

Glad to hear that the Brew Crew is doing well. There's photos and videos of flooding all over the Internet, and some of it looks pretty drastic. Cars, roads, building--they don't slow the water down a whole heck of a lot.

Know that lots of people are thinking about you, and I hope the water starts to recede sooner than expected (to go along with not coming up as high as expected).

Qld floods..

A little off topic, but does any one know if Vulcan is OK. His home suburb is one of those badly affected.

Pev, just saw a post in the New Aircraft thread to the effect that that Vulcan is indeed alive and well; as his house is above the flood waters. By how much, i don't know, but he is still incredibly lucky, to my way of thinking.

To the rest of our fellow Trainzers up in Queensland, keep safe guys. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families in these difficult times.

Matt.

With relatives in Chapel Hill, I was relieved to see that their property is above the water levels. Difficult times, but it looks as if things can only get better.

Best Wishes all

Clarification please.....

Does this report indicate that a tropical cyclone (hurricane) is moving toward Queensland?

http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDQ20080.txt

NBC news here in the US shows a report from Brisbane (Ian Williams @ NBC Brisbane) and that 35,000 homes may be underwater and/or destroyed when the water level drops. He also mentioned that the flooding may not decrease until the weekend... and that water supply for drinking is bad.

Best wishes to all impacted by the current flooding.

Prayers with you.

Regards,
Ron

My thoughts to the people in QLD suffering and relief that the Trainz team are OK.

I experienced flooding at first hand when I was a boy (twice in three years) so I've seen what water can do to people's properties. Even when there's no fatalities (as, tragically in this case) it's a terrible experience.
