At last the guys at Auran have realised they need a new game engine! IM and TGA stuff is probably 20 years out of date. On the plus side, it's thanks to Auran for keeping train related content on the brew! My only wish is that they use net immerse files and direct draw surface material. Then comes my biggest wish, that they provide importers so people like me can go ballistic, providing content! But above all please, please use speedtrees, they were included in a game called oblivion, released in 2006, surely that is not too much a request after all this time!

Actually, they do use Speedtrees - just not in your versions. Get hold of TS2010 or later for that feature. In terms of importers, they have the Trainz Mesh Importer which accepts a specific type of XML file.

Sorry but what about the .im format would be out of date and how would you know this anyway?

For the record, the game does not use the tga format internally in most cases. if there is a texture.txt the tga is converted to .texture which is the primary format trainz uses. it appears to be at least on par with many common graphics formats used in other engines, so that can't really be called out of date either.

I suggest you actually look through your texture files! most of them are small bit, so yesterday stuff. Back here in the modern world, everything is photo-textured, and moving onwards!

Thanks for your reply, as regards the importer will 3dmax or Blender recognise it?

In regards to 3DS Max, there are exporters up to 3DS Max 2012, which will export an .im mesh out of Max, ready to be used in Trainz. I don't know about Blender, I use 3DS Max myself.

Texture files one can use for Trainz are JPGs, TGAs and BMP ones AFAIK.

Where to begin...

ok, so either you dont know what you are talking about, or you are simply failing to communicate what you really mean.

70 posts and only now noticed that a new version of Trainz is coming soon™?

Zapata935 is the one out of date here.....:hehe:

Regards.

Dear Captain England, I have not fired up trainz for eighteen months because it is so out of date and twenty years behind the rest of the gaming industry! you knob-yanking ****-wit!

Zapata,

Welcome back.

However, if you wish to continue using this forum I recommend you refresh your memory by reading the code of conduct concerning acceptable behaviour and language.

Sorry to disappoint you concerning TANE, but we will still be backwards compatible to any assets that TS12 build 61388 is able to use. That means IM meshes, TGA, BMP and JPG textures will still be in vogue for some time. It would be a shame to lose some great assets simply because they are a few years old. As you pointed out Back here in the modern world, everything is photo-textured, and moving onwards! TANE too is leaping forward.
