Dell is getting better, but I hated their old laptops: everything was proprietary in them.....especially the hard drives. You either had to pay the nose-bleed price from Dell or buy a conversion kit and hope that the kit and the aftermarket drive would fit.
I remember that from the old Latitude laptops I supported. Later one it was, as you said, off the shelf. I just put in an older 1 TB SSD into my 5410 All-in-1 I use for sheet music. I disabled the Support Assist on that and only run it manually until the warranty runs out.
