My DVD-RW isn't working and I can't install my TRS 2004. I'm hoping that some one can help me whit a full setup. I got the original licence.

My DVD-RW writer failed on my PC.

I pondered on whether to get it fixed. I finally decided not to bother.

Instead I bought an HP 550s External Slim Multiformat DVD/CD writer. It doesn’t need an external power supply. It’s powered via the USB cable (suppled with the unit) which splits into two. I found that I had to plug both USBs into my PC because there was insufficient power with just one of them plugged in.

If you buy one of these you therefore need to make sure you have two spare USB sockets, or possibly some kind of adaptor (which I have not tried). It is easier if the USB sockets are on the front of the machine because the cable length is very short.

My PC (Vista) recognised the device with no problems and I was up and running in no time (once I discovered that both USBs had to be plugged in!)

My TRS2004 is version 2.4, build 2370, which requires the CD to be in place for the game to load. However I have found that once the Main Menu screen is loaded, the external drive can be disconnected and TRS2004 will work just fine.

I tend to leave the play disk in the external drive all the time unless I need the drive for something else. It protects the disk and saves wear & tear, and reduces the risk of damage to the drawer.

I don’t know the answer to that.

I’ve had a look at my Planet Auran account details which contains quite a lot of information such as registered serial numbers, user ID and FPT password, but I can find no reference to version number. The only place I’ve seen this is on the Main Menu of the game.

Auran support is now finished for this version so a help desk ticket won’t work.

Could you perhaps borrow an external drive from a friend or relative?

You could then install the game and see which version you have. With luck you might find you have a version which doesn’t need the disk to play (which I believe was only built into the UK versions).

By the way, there is really no need to apologise for your English. I can understand it very well.
