 Can anyone out there please help. I am after the Track gradient profile from Lymington Junction down to the pier. Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith's book decided not to do that part in their South Coast Railways series.

The Gradient at Lymington Junction for approx 1/4 mile is 1 in 241 travelling towards SWAY.

Thanks Harry. I do have the mainline route gradients, the bit I am missing is the spur down to Lymington Town and Pier. Unless I have missunderstood you and the gradient is 1:241 from the Pier up to the junction?

I went to Google Earth and measured the track. It's not entirely accurate, but it does make a decent rough guide.
I also found a link to the Strolling Guides report on the line.
http://www.strollingguides.co.uk/books/newforest/places/lhl.php
Measured from the junction at Sway Roads, the points I measured were as follows. (Place, ground height, distance)
Sway Road, 33 meters
Shirley Holms, 24m, 2.75km
Ampress Lane, 8m, 5km
Station (not marked, but that's what it looks like), 7m, 5.78m
Bridge Road, 4m, 6.25km
Pier, 0, 7.24km

I suspect the track height at the pier is closer to 2 meters, but those are the numbers I got from Google Earth.

Many Thanks Claude - Gentleman and scholar sir. This gives me a good starting point.

Sorry to be negative, but I found the altitude information from Google Earth to be hopelessly inaccurate. Mind you I was trying to trace a line that has been derelict for fifty years. I hope you have a better experience.
Mick Berg.
