I really cant use the textures in a way that looks natural. I dont suppose theres anytutorials out there, i guess it just comes down to practice makes perfect!!

If anyone has any ideas for me that would be great. I know how to rotate and stuff like that, my main problem is capturing the area that im trying to recreate.

But i shall keep at it.

Cheers,

I think there are two parts to the answer.

Preparation of the texture; whether it's a drawing or photo will require some work in an apropriate editing programme. I usually find that drawings require a bit of shadow added while photos need squaring with shadows reduced.

Scale; no matter how good the texture adjacent planes with them applied at different scales will ruin the look.

Paul Hobbs has a tutorial on making better textures from drawings.

Can you post a shot of the problem? it might not be as bad as you think.

Chris.

I wasn't sure whether the problem related to applying textures to an object in Gmax, or applying textures to a baseboard. Can you clarify?

It is route building he is talking about, cos he's mentioned rotating textures.

I guess the thing you could do is download a good map with great texturing. Someone like gfisher, roymac, or Eso, those guys have done some awesome routes.

There were some texturing tutorials on the old forum, but not sure if anyone has done one for the new ones.

Yeah sorry guys, colhad your on the money. I was talking about placing textures on baseboard. Didnt realise textureing can cover so many diff things. But thanx for your relys, I will try and get some of those routes colhad and try from there. Ive just started out a route for the Hay Point - NorthGoonyella area so i need to get some info on what type of colour that area is made up of.

Once again thanks to all who replied, even if i didnt make it easy for you.

Depending on the textures you wish to use there are many different ways and I am no great creative person with textures either. As mentioned look at other peoples work to get an idea you may also find other ways of doing things apart from texturing a layout.

One thing that may help you is from Dmdrake, he has made may different textures, tress building etc. Possibly more then anyone else. He has some tutorials on his site here. Scroll down the page to find tutorials and have a look, it may give you some more ideas.
