i want to build a trainz route as close as to the real thing but dont know where to start. im hoping to build the line between cabulture and pamona north of brisbane queensland. i live in the area and have been on the route alot so i have a basic understanding of what to build just dont know how to get the track in the right spot and the terrain right. i know this will be a huge task. i made a route between beerwah and landsbrough and that took a good month to get right and thats just between two stations!!.. so yeah any help would be awesome :)

I don’t understand HOG or DEM so I always start with a look at the area in Google Earth. Make sure north is at the top then use the ruler to make various measurements between places on the route, and note the elevation levels. Then in Surveyor check that north is at the top, put down your rulers and lay the track with the spline points at the heights noted in Google Earth. Do a small area at a time, then repeat. Then smooth the track before the boring job of getting the rest of the baseboard to the right height. Hope that helps.

There's a payware program called Transdem that lets you import the Digital Elevation Maps and convert them into landscapes with the track splines in place. Your job after that is to plant the grass, trees, buildings, etc.

I don't know how much the program costs, but there are plenty of questions about it here on the forum. Search fo information on TransDem, or Geophil who is the creator of the program.

i dont know but if there is dem for australia is there? ive built landsbrough(one station) i used just google earth its 37m above sea height and its flat so thats my starting point i used the ruler for the distance for platform and like the triangular turn around (dont know what there called) and yeah. i still can decide to do the whole ithing in 3f 6 inch gauge or standard so you can run any rolling stock on it. if someone did the whole terrain for me and me do the rest thart would be bloody brilliant but i am so new to this i dont even have a f4riend who plays trianz so i dont know where to begin.
