Heathrow Airport

Jamie is correct, use a suitable texture and line the sides with a suitable grass spline to get straight edges. I first placed the dual 3 lane motorway spline down and then used the airport line markings down each side of it and then the center line down the middle of the highway. This gave a reasonable width. I placed two 8m grass splines each side and then removed the highway spline and finaly texture the area. The white lines at each end are zebra crossing splines and the runway number is on the DLS (cant rember the kuid at present)
I do the same for the taxiways only i use the boulevard as it is narrower.

Heathrow Airport is progressing slowly, runway 27L is operational and the helicopter pad. Aircraft are automaticaly filtered for landing and take off by an ATLS set up. A sample of the Airport can be found HERE for a short while for those who are intrigued on how it is working. Still some way to go for the rest of the airpot yet.

I certainly am, many thanks for the download.

WOW stagecoach,

You certainly are putting in some work to Heathrow, congratulations on the progress so far.

A few pilots want to have a talk to you though about the guys at Air Traffic Control, they where stuck for some time in this position and then it only got worse especially when Air Force One tried to take off :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:.

It was interesting to see how you set up ATLS, every time I get to see something working with it I understand it a bit more.

Many Thanks again for the preview.

Hi Craig
Do you know which spot the hold up was at? as i did have a problem with one junction which i had sorted. May need to check the junction again. If Airforce one did not take off an ATLS may not be set when packaged up, will check it out.

Edit Just down loaded it and cant see why it holds up the planes.

Hi Stagecoach,

I am not really sure where/what the hold up is, but in my screenshot the first plane is Andrew and he is locked up by junction 375. It is showing the wrong way and the invisible signal is showing red of course. If I manually change the junction he then moves on but is again blocked by the next 3-way junction, changing that and he moves on. The other planes by this time are locked up by the invisible signals and may actually have joined up to become a "train" :hehe:

Just before this happens I noticed that one of the Push Back Tractors is waiting for clearance so this may be the start of where the lock up is. Air Force One eventually moves but slows to a crawl when trying to get onto the actually runway.

There is a lot of detail on your layout which even with my new "medium high end" computer it has trouble with.

Hope this helps you and if I can help in any way let me know here or PM me and we can talk there or by email.

Stagecoach!

I like your shots so far, and I can only be excited to see more. I haven't been on in the past month or so, things have been too busy, but I've been meaning to ask if you want me to send you a copy of my Heathrow T5/5b and Single/Dbl Jetway(with HSBC marked on the side) set? Just PM me when you get the chance...

.... sorry to hijack your thread :)

Another shot looking north into terminal 4 with a built up area in the foreground. The buildings are DMS Drakes as there are no uk spline sets around that would fill a background.

This is the start of the hanger and maintenance area to the East of the airport with the concord hanger top right. All have been placed as seen on google earth with what is available on the DLS. The main road at the bottom is the A30 and the one above the Southern Perimeter Rd.

Looking good Stagecoach.

I have started on one as well based off a International Airport in the US. I will slightly change it (and give it an Aussie theme/style) but I am sure those who use this airport would know it. Once I have the basics down then it will be time to learn ATLS and that may take some time :hehe:

Thanks Craig, ive used track direction markers to try and operate a one way type system on the taxiways or else the planes just wonder all over the place. Once the southern half is done the north runway should be fairly quick as there is nothing to the north of it. Need any help with ATLS just let me know.

Thanks Stagecoach, already thought of asking you WHEN I get into trouble, not if :hehe:

Those angled lines at the end of the runway, where did you get those from or did you make them? As you know I have you first release WIP of Heathrow, and those lines are not there so they are new. Ones like those though are used quite a bit at Airports, especially near the terminals for what looks like "safety" zones for the workers. Anything outside these zones seem to be where planes are/may be and workers would need to be "authorised" outside those zones.

That is just an image problem with trainz when you get a screenshot at an angle. The lines are 5 zebra crossings placed across the runway. They are in the WIP version so may be you have some dependancies missing.

That certainly is a strange effect then, something I have not seen before. I have the crossings and saw them there but thought you had used something different.

Many Thanks,

Craig

Hi Criag
Thought you said Heathrow was big, is not Orlando bigger? Like the shots, will soon be able to fly from Heathrow to Orlando. Ive now done Terminal 4 but its getting a bit late now.

Well, yeah Orlando is a little big :hehe:. If I tried to create it as it really is, there would be so many planes with 24 for each terminal even though some are local domestic size planes. Even with about 10 planes per "Pod" it will still be quite large.

I like the set up for Terminal 4, very creative with some of your ideas.

Have you seen anything that looks like a Toll Collector booth type thing, I need someone to collect the money for my beer, I mean, for my Parking stations? :hehe:

Craig Try kuid_59692_1097 and kuid2_60697_28004 to create an entrance. All the layout of Heathrow comes from google earth so all parking gates, taxiways etc are as seen from that image. What I could do with is some runway/taxiway signs that are nameable.

Many thanks for the kuids, they look perfect.

I agree about the runway signs, they certainly are needed. I know there was mention of someone making them (or thinking about it) on the other thread but I am not sure who.

I may just drop a request/hint/plead or just beg to find out who it was and if they are still interested.

I have had my read of over 40 pages this week looking for something else there, so not doing it again in the near future .... well this weekend anyway :hehe: Maybe someone could remember and we can work from there.

P.S. Something I found today while looking for the above and a couple of other things is a pedestrian walkway, I thought it looks really good and you may be able to use it. Kuid:178061:100098 :)
