Have you ever had a person who has put you down for loving Trainz/Trains?

There must be an odd number of people about who think rail is of the past. It may be that in America because of the dearth of passenger rail some may slip into that mode I suppose. On the matter of our hobby here at Trainz, I have never yet found a person who thinks I am daft or the hobby is. In fact they tend to be interested and some a bit fascinated at what I have done in the building side of things. One could suspect that those who find train sims daft are a bit of a couch potato themselves and forget that generations of youngsters had train sets or went out train spotting. They wouldn't know that being of limited knowledge or awareness of the world around them.

On a purely personal I couldn't care a monkeys if I came across an ignorant reaction. I thoroughly enjoy it especially at times erratic illhealth confines me and it keeps my grey cells functioning A1 till I am out and about again.

This goes back to the "Greed" of the Oil Barons, GM Corporation. Standard Oil.,etc..They are pretty much responsible as to the situation we have today..Because they Bought up a lot of Trams(Electric Streetcars, Interurbans.,RR)..This shut the door on a lot of passenger rail..Oh, I forgot to mention some of the big Tire co. like Firestone..

Put in this way
In Australia Train Drivers Or Engineers{for our American friends] earn anywhere from 100,000 aussie dollars to 250,000 aussie dollars a year depending where they are based

Cheers,
Patchy
And the guards (conductors) make around AUD$80,000 a year, on Queensland Rail at least. The drivers on QR passenger trains earn around $130,000 a year.

Jacksonbarno, I might try that (Post 54) out on a few people. The problem is, what have trains done for Australia?

And a note to everyone, if you're going to show a guy who is into model trains, but opposes simulators, a simulator, don't show them Thomas The Tank Engine...show them something close to what they model. So if they model the Union Pacific, show them some UP trains. If they model an LMS region layout, show them the Settle & Carlisle line, etc.

Kieran.

Funny you would mention the Interstate System..This one thing, its been hard to understand..The system has always Subsidized by the Government..But somehow they always cry rape when comes to funding Amtrak or any of the RR..Where did a great share of passenger Trains Go??Ask the Government..Now Congress is Yelling about not wanting to fund HSR..Money, Money..Nimbys, Nimbys..WoW

That's what my mum (mom to our American friends) does when she sees me doing anything involving traisn from using Trainz to reading books. :(

I get a similar thing at school. That is, until they see the model in Blender! :D

Not always. A friend of mine models mostly European trains (I model American steamers and classic/early diesels) but he got me interested in the European trains.
