guess the LOCO game...

Its the 4th now (here in Australia), so I'll post an easy one.

7010_Port-Kembla.jpg

What class is it?
Which country was it used in?
Which railway owned it?
What livery is it in?
Pakistan maybe !

Here we go, one of my favorites:
mm_2337.jpg

Who designed it?
What was this loco's original, 2nd, and final number?
When was it withdrawn (month & year)?

The D1 class of locomotive were built by English Electric for AIS - Australian Iorn and Steel for use in the Port Kembla Steel works --- they needed the big cooling fans as they spent most of there time doing very heavy shunting around the confines of the very hot areas of the steel blast pots and other area of the steel works.

These were geared very low and in notch 5 Parallel only had a top speed of around 20 KMP. They had a series/parallel switch manualy operated in the cab. They only had 1 motor per bogie which side rods to transfer power to all drive wheels.

You can play with it in trainz if you down load the model under then name of bearcat245 -- me.

Strangely, I cannot get the side rod bogeys on the first version.

EDIT: never mind

The first series only had one traction motor per bogie and so the power was transfered to the second axel on the bogie by the side rods. These locos were built at the end of the steam era so proven technoglies was used, the side rods are only small as these were about power not speed.

When I first worked on these locos I asked an old hand driver about the pulling power and I was informed that they would pull anything out of the yard you wanted to, including the loco shed if required.

The fixed version for TS12 will be out soon. For both the first series with side rods and the second series with out soon.

darn it! note to self, learn Southern railway engines! (I'm kinda more of an LMS and a GWR fan, with good smattering of emotional affair a la BR standards).

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock:o  ..........(crickets chirping)

I like learning, but this timeframe is starting to be ridiculus this time around;)

Since nobody seems to want to guess mine, go ahead Timbu.

If anyone's curious, the answers to mine were:

It' an ex-LBSCR K class.
Designed by L. B. Billinton.
Original# (LBSCR): 337
Second# (SR): B337 / 2337
Final# (BR): 32337
Withdrawn in December of 1962.

Be prepared. Next time I get it, I'm posting another British loco!

CAT/Progress Rail
The one in the pic is owned by Norfolk Southern/Progress Rail it is a Demo Unit.
5 for NS:4000-4001 have been delivered and 4002-4005 are built and waiting for delivery.
There are 6 for NS if you count the PRLX Demo unit 4300.
As an extra the one in the pic is PRLX 4300.

Now I am passing my turn to whoever wants it.
