Gmax problems

Never been very good with CAD type progs, but thought I`d like to have another go.

Went to "Turbosquid" (after seeing it mentioned on the forum), & downloaded the free Gmax to my desktop.
When I double click to install, it appears to unpack, then a box comes up saying that there is something wrong with my "Windows Installer".

Actual wording is:- "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe
mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly
installed."

My "Windows Installer" is fine, nothing wrong with it.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved. I am running XP/sp2

Your Windows Installed is not running. It is a service and it is stoped
You need to start it up before you can install anything'...

if that is frighting to you get a comtech to do it for you
If you get it wrong it may not be just your installed that is not working

Tried option 2 & reinstalled but no joy. Will let my son have a look see.
