GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

New Project

When GMax starts doing silly things, the only certain way to fix it is to do a complete reinstall. Your data files should survive but back them up just to be safe.

My 'little' WIP at the moment...

Rather enjoying this one. It's giving me a challenge, which I haven't had in a long while with my locos and rolling stock :)

Well, how did this get dragged back to the 3rd page?

Well anyway, here's a new render:

Edit: 8,246 polys?! (I added some stuff after this pic was taken.)

Update of my loco [which will be a 4-6-0T (as in a tank loco)]:

Now this is a sky-rocketing 9,707 polys, a lot for a tank loco, don't you think?

IMHO, this is the best work I've ever done in 3Ds/Gmax.

It certainly looks good - you've got the hang of this quicker than me :o:p

~10,000 polys is probably OK, especially if that includes the bogey (some models have 10K bogeys!)

Is it based on anything, or is it freelance? I could find a few uses for one if it fits the British loading gauge, but I don't think I've ever seen a 4-6-0 that small!

102A & 101A polish passenger coaches, designed in 1950's and used till late 90's. Low poly models, soon available to download.

It seems you have made a small but significant error. On any conventional steam locomotive the piston and crosshead guides are aranged so that their centre line passes through the centre of the driven axle. There are cases where there is a slight vertical difference but in this case the centre lines are still parallel to the basic centre line. Any major deviation from this would severely affect the smooth running of the loco

In your model, you will have to either angle the piston and guides or lower the assembly to the horizontal centre line of the driver axles. The last choice makes the animation easier.

Otherwise, it is looking good. What prototype are you modeling?

Cheers

Yeah, it's only been since August I think since that first release of mine. And I'm only 11 years old in 6th grade. It does include the bogies. Small? I think it is a bit wide for the rather small British loading gauge. I'll see when I export. Making it smaller shouldn't be too hard if it is too wide.

P.S. This was originally to be a tender loco, but I decided that would be later. And even earlier, this was just a small 3Ds Max exercise that turned out to be an actual project!

OK, thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix it when I can.

P.S. It is freelance.

Edit:

Is this good?

Please excuse the attachment points, I had to move the body 4'8" forward to get it to line up with the bogey so I could edit properly. (I attach everything in the body together, I see that when exporting from 3Ds to Gmax it is not a very good idea.)
