I have one question, what is the purpose of the large pipe from the smokebox to the tank, and what looks like a siphon in the tank itself.

It's condencing gear. The N2's were used for the NER's heavy suburban traffic out of King's Cross to Moregate. This included a steep 2 mile tunnel so the idea behind the condencing apparatus was to condence the used steam from the cylinders, condense it and then return the water back to the water tanks so it's kinda the opposite of a siphon. Of course someone maybe able to make a more detailed explanation, as that's as much as I know.

Love the work guys, especially LieLestoSbrat. I can just imagine that hauling a long set of Teaks.
