GM&O font info

personally I don't know however try putting a Font ID request at: http://www.abstractfonts.com/
They've been pretty good at getting an ID back to me, it may take them a day or two...

Edit: The other option is to use photoshop (or fireworks, or corel draw) and take a "&" symbol, convert it to paths & edit that.

Thanks PerRock for the tip, I put in a request at the website you posted and will wait to see if I get any feedback.

yes, i think the response you got at abstract fonts is correct, that it was probably designed especially for the GM&O, the way the 'coca-cola' script lettering was designed... by a dedicated design shop -- or, maybe the owner's brother...? who knows. but, the thing to do is to load the jpeg and open it into, say, 'adobe illustrator', then outline the type -- don't a color-match, where only the color of the text will be selected -- copy that and paste it into a new illustrator page, where you can clean it and size it and turn it into a jpeg or whatever for paintshop?

Mike I think your right, I've done close to a couple of hours of web search and found nothing about the font the GM&O used on their loco's so I might try your suggestion. I got to looking at these pictures done for MSTS which I think look excellent and try to get this road name into Trainz since nobody has done this one yet.
Scroll down a bit for the pictures.

yes. so, you saw the MSTS GM&O add-on, then? it's a rich looking set, and right now ( new video card this month ) i can't afford to buy it and help you out, and i don't like MSTS that much to just get it.

but, money where my mouth is, i have Illustrator and Photoshop, and, if it comes to it, i can help with the designing of that damn ampersand -- which i too searched the web font-world over and didn't come close to anything resembling that bunny-tail down curve -- though it was interesting to see those 'life-like' fakes.

you saw that the micro decal company -- i forget its name -- makes a GM&O HO set? unfortunately too small an image on their web page to work with.

very interesting to see all this GM&O stuff -- i lived in Mobile for a year -- and how really a hidden gem that railroad is.

Thanks PerRock, you didn't have to do that. If you need anything from me don't hesitate to ask, I'm more then glad to return the favor.

Hi mike,
Some wires must be crossed here somehow, nowhere in my post did I ask you to buy this payware as I was only pointing out that I came across that website and saw that road name was done for MSTS and thought "I" would try to make It for Trainz thats all.

humba! and, no, i didn't think you did! but, it's the kind of thing that we do, and i'd have gained the knowledge and gained an MSTS route... humm, but, here's this ampersand coming out of the blue, now, and that's pretty cool.

anyway, stay cool.

Sorry to bump

Sorry to bump this thread, but I wanted to ask Ozark if he finished whatever he was working on with the GM&O. I just did a set of GP30's not long ago for my own use, unweathered as of yet, using the NYC GP30 on the DLS. I wasn't aware of a font match, so I meticulously traced the letters off of a picture. Turned out pretty good for an novice but it took quite a while! I don't have a picture right now but I'll try to whip one up later this evening.
