Global settings in TRS09?

Hello,

I just installed Trainz2009 and I haven't been able to find a "settings" page through which I can make global changes, as opposed to making changes session by session. Does TRS09 have that capability?

My new user name may look sort of familiar. I used to be "whyfly" in TRS06-land.

Thanks for your help with my question.

Hi Bob,

I tried what you suggested, but didn't find the same kind of settings page that was in TRS2006. You're talking about the box with the Start, Options, Content, Manual, etc. choices?

I've also tried to install the patches from the Options menu, but no luck there either. It says I don't have DirectX9. I downloaded DiurectX9 and installed it in its own folder in C:\. Is that where it should go? I tried to install it in C:\Program Files\Auran, but I get a message that that isn't a valid folder. I'm also assuming that DirectX, not OpenGL, should be checked in the Display Settings tab in Options.

I didn't have any of these problems with TRS2006. You were very helpful when I was learning Surveyor. Glad to see you're still at it.

Thanks for your help here./

Bob,

I made a mistake. The global settings aren't what I thought they were. Let's skip that.

However, I can still use some help with the issues I brought up in the second paragraph of my previous post.

No, click Start then click the Main Menu box upper left. You can then select options and settings for Video and for Surveyor. I think they're all there as in TRS2006.

Got 'em. Thanks.

Any suggestions about the following DirectX9 issue? I've tried to install the patches from the Options menu, but no luck there either. It says I don't have DirectX9. I downloaded DirectX9 and installed it in its own folder in C:\. Is that where it should go? I tried to install it in C:\Program Files\Auran, but I get a message that that isn't a valid folder.

I'm also assuming that DirectX, not OpenGL, should be checked in the Display Settings tab in Options.

Is it possible the disk I just bought (yesterday) doesn't need those patches? The trainz.exe file properties is dated Jan. 2009. How do I find out what version or build I have?

DirectX should install into C:\Windows\system32\DirectX.
The only way I know of how to get the build number is to click the TS2009 launcher icon and check the lower right corner of the launcher window. If it isn't there then you have to start Trainz or Content Manager to see the number.

Try both and see which works best for your installation. I had problems with DirectX (version 10) for my TS 2010 installation and used OpenGL until I upgraded to a 24" monitor (1920 x 1080). Now TS2010 crashes with OpenGL and works with DirectX. This I cannot explain.

TS2010 looks really good on a 24" monitor:D

Bob,

I downloaded a version of Directx9 that knew where to install itself, and I was able to use the update patch. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Paul,

I bought a new computer with a 22" monitor about a year ago, and TRS2009 is beautiful!
