Game Freezes at Random

So, good news, after a reinstall and some tinkering with Norton, TRS2019 is no longer a crash-happy game.

However, that doesn't mean it works perfectly now.

In the past few days, I've been trying to use Surveyor, but after a couple of minutes, something peculiar happens. All of a sudden, the game locks up, and it's as if it needs to refresh the thumbnails on the train tab. Not only that, but every icon in the top bar is replaced by a grey box. Making it even more peculiar is that the only thing that doesn't freeze is particle effects like steam coming out of a locomotive.

Is this a bug related to autosaving? I tried to disable it, but I can't find any option for changing autosave settings. Was this removed in TRS2019? And yes, I've run several DBRs.

And if it isn't an autosave issue, is it a memory, antivirus, or content issue? The only route I've been using Surveyor on since this problem began is ZachmanAwesomeness' Island of Sodor Route (a route I've had alot of input on), which is being made in TS12 because Zach's computer is insufficient to run TRS2019. As a result, the route still has billboard trees with alpha texture issues.

By comparison, Driver works flawlessly, as I was running the Railfanning session on Coal Country with zero issues.

There's no autosave in TRS19. What we have is a recovery in case of a crash.

If your icons are gray blocks and other menus are empty, it means content hasn't been cached or fully cached yet. You can tell if this process is going on by looking at the top of the screen. In very small white text is a message that reads caching <kuid: ---- something ---->. the ---- something ---- = some asset that needs to be cached. If you have a lot of content, this process can take a lot of time, but it takes a few minutes for a few assets. This becomes more of an issue if your hard drive is badly fragmented. This is why I recommend defragging the old spinning hard drives if you have your content on one.

Driver most likely doesn't exhibit this because the route-content is already cached where as Surveyor will have this because content is being added all the time.

I'm glad you solved the A/V issue. That's a painful one!

My new Alienware doesn't have any way to play physical disks. My install and content are on the D Drive.

You mean all on SSDs?

My Alienware 15 has an SSD C: drive and 7200 rpm hard disk for D:

I put my data, when I could fit it, on the D: drive. Now I use an external drive when I take my laptop because I can't fit the data on the drive.

I have an Alienware Aurora R11, and I can't find a single place to insert a physical disk or CD.

According to the drive optimization program, the C drive is an SSD, while the D drive is an HDD. I also have two external drives: a Seagate drive I bought last January, and an Iomega drive my family got in December 2009 when our old Sony desktop conked out and we needed to transfer files to the new HP desktop (the subject of my infamous "Lag, Lag, Lag!" thread in the TRS2006 support subforum). The latter still has files and pictures dating back to 2005 at the least.
