Fresh Install CMP Doesn't Work

I now know my serial number by heart. I've been reinstalling TRS2006 this week and CMP never seems to work. It was crashing on start with a "failed to load compiledinterfacetext msg. A few reinstalls later (where Driver didn't work correctly - no driver bar, for instance) and now CMP starts and hangs.

I was resigned to possibly loosing all my content and going back to the beginning but it seems I can't even do that.

TRS06 did run fairly well for 6 weeks or so if you overlook the occasional reach for the power switch lock-up but now I can't even get a fresh install to work.

Any help suggestions will be greatly appreciated

When you uninstalled TRS2006 did you also delete the existing ..\Program Files\Auran file? After doing the fresh install did you immediately install SP1 using the instructions in the Readme file?

No joy.

At least TRS seems to be working, but CMP is back to "failed to load compiled interfacetext file" and terminating.

Maybe it's time to give trainzutil a whirl:(

Hi Bob,

Apologies if this is the "teaching granny to suck eggs" bit.

When you re-installed, did you edit the Registry?

I deleted 2006 ( for a re-install) - using the "Add programs" menu, then re-installed and had problems.

I removed 2006 (again), then used "REGEDIT" and removed all references to Auran (there's a procedure for this - search the forum - it's somewhere),
On the re-re-install (after the Registry cleaning) everything was ok.

You'll have to do what col suggests. When you reinstall, the prob that CMP has is not being rectified by the reinstall. Go into regedit and delete every ref to trainz, auran ETC . Make a backup of your local dir first and any cmp's move to another location and rename.

Oops

You know,
I rather fancy myself the ace sysadmin...

It somehow never occured to me to give the registry a good scrubbing while Trainz was out.

Yes, this of course was the problem. Many heartfelt thanks to you Colin and Baz.

In fact it was probably the registry that got me into this reinstall mess to begin with. Just guessing here but I had a series of reach-for-the-power-switch lockups before TRS wouldn't run at all. The lockups I attribute to my computer and certain content (some locos in particular), but TRS refusing to start... Hmmmm

As a matter of fact the last thing I saw right before the last crash was that pretty yellow Union Pacific SD-40 that might be on the box of TRS2009. Very prety. Way too much detail for my poor old machine.

So now I just have to figure out how to get my content back. I'm pretty well dreading this as the first reinstall worked untill I killed it by trying to import everything at once (I selected my moved-and-renamed Auran folder as the target of the import). Might be better off doing it over...

OK, again my deepest gratitude
Chris

Glad to help. I don,t know how many times I,ve r/i from 2004 up. Sometimes losing all routes and other things. It just took CMP 8 hours to import the local file assets to my new slave harddrive because I did,nt realise the game would grow to nearly 40 gig. Also, something to look at, save manually every few additions to your creation even if you have autosave on

Hi,

Me also!
Feel for you, though with all the sitting waiting for re-installs.

Worst I had was with XP - and a Hard Disk that was giving up. It would re-install, but then needed multi-Mb of downloads to patch itself. Glad that I have unlimited access!
