Fraps – best version for Trainz?

Can anyone please advise.

I’ve just been to the Fraps download page which is offering Fraps 3.5.9

However, on the same page they offer Previous version: Fraps 3.4.7

That seems to indicate the earlier version may have advantages.

My system spec is adequate for either option, but knowing that new software can cause problems I have to ask the question. Which is the best version to use with Trainz?

Been using 3.5.9 here since end of august and there seems to be no problems with it that I've come across.

I'll check that one out as well.

I looked at the Fraps help pages and it all looked remarkably easy. It also referenced the ease of use with Windows Movie Maker which I'm familiar with.

If there's little between them operationally, then perhaps the one which uses the least resource and allows the fastest frame rate capture should perhaps be the best choice. I'm assuming 25fps setting is adequate, although my Trainz reports an average of 24fps.

Remembering my old 8mm film efforts nearly 50 years ago (24fps), the editing was always the most time consuming. Much of my Trainz editing is already done on my routes with carefully placed cameras and I'm happy to spend time on further editing in WMM. However I don't really want to get bogged down with anything too complex to capture the movie clips.

Is there any particular reason for your preference for Bandicam?

Started out with FRAPs you can see my efforts in my two early videos, i thought it was the better of the two, however i gave bandicam a go and found it to be much better, both in performance (i actually noticed an increase in frames) and easy of operation. also the freeware version gives you 10mins of recording time vs the 30secs given by FRAPs

Up to you, but ive always found bandicam to be just that bit better

If useing both ( Which i do for differnt game's ) I surgest you point the save file to a differnt drive if possiable.
I find when recording it does not slow trianz, or other game's.
I have trainz on a seperate HD, and all recording save's go to a 3rd HD including screenshots and any other sound recording's.

I found this to be true too probably due to how the hard drives work today unlike the older and better SCSI drives that could handle multiple read/write instructions much better.
