First Impressions......

I think what you've discovered is that the cars must be set up to accept the loads that the industries produce.

I could never understand why they call it "quick drive". My advice would be to forget quick drive and create your own session which is just as quick and if a computer illeterate such as myself can do it, it has got to be easy,lol. Select the route, session surveroyor mode and add locomotives and rolling stock as you want to. Do not do anything else in surveyor although later on you can add rules and set up industries and one or two other things but you must not add scenery, railway infrastucure etc! When you have finished select "save as" click on circle next to route to turn it dark and thclick on circle next to session to light it up and give your session a name. I usually keep the same name and add something like "v1". Then exit surveyor and select your session then "drive"

Well oddly enough I have been in surveyor and added some locomotives in the springfield industrial one. I desperately wish I knew how to add Industry production in to that scenario. The airport is already calling for general goods and diesel fuel. But the only thing the city produces is Pellletized goods that I can see. There are a couple of industries that dont produce anything and I would love to be able to switch them over to produce general goods and diesel fuel. But why do u say not to add buildings or track? Does it bomb out the scenario?

Or press CTRL+F2 to instantly enter Driver. Upon ending the session, you will be taken back to Surveyor. Useful for testing your route and session.

Trainz does AI traffic approximately 1,523.679.334% better than any other trainsim, but it takes a little time to learn to set it up. Beginners guide here;

http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?306297-Beginners-guide-to-Trainz

Still working on a beginners guide to AI traffic, trying to figure out how to do just the basic basics to get n00bs started.

Being still a newbie that has set up AI on some of my routes, the hardest part for me was the Portal setup. I wound up using Central Portal control, and that seems to be the easiest to set up. I still don't understand how to setup the basic portal, which I have on one of my routes, so I just use Central Portal to control it. There is also another portal I have on one downloaded route called "portal rerail" and I have no idea what that does.

OK....well here is what I figured out or THOUGHT I figured out....Springfield again.....the airport wants diesel and general goods. So from Surveyor I set up Palmer Chemicals to handle diesel fuel and aviation fuel...not sure what I was doing but I added them in 100 units per each que I think three each of Aviation Fuel and Diesel. Then I set them to produce that, but consume nothing. I then hooked my power up to a consist of tankers and set them all to haul Diesel from commodity picker, assuming that since they could only haul Diesel (the airport wasnt needing aviation just diesel fuel) Palmer would only load diesel into my cars..er....my cars would only load the diesel. So when I backed my train into position the company took control of my train and a little red bug appeared on the screen saying I had a script exception or something greek like that. Not sure what i did I suppose I need to go back into the industry and set them all up to be diesel? The fact that Palmer industries produces DIesel and Aviation confused them when I set the cars to hold only Diesel? I am sure someone out there can steer me in the right direction but right now I need to go shower. I hate it when RL rezzes. :)

I tried it again without settin the commodity picker for the cars and still got the error message....here is what it is.

MultipleIndustryNew : Thread Exception: ER_NullReference, line 173, file multipleindustrynew.gs (1)

Never mind I figured it out. Had to assign which cars to load the commodity in from the Industry side. I think it is working ok but will have to play around with it more to find out. The General goods seems to be working fine and they seem to be producing more general goods as I go. Still not too sure about the diesel and aviation fuel though.

Is it possible for me to add track and say.....a crude oil storage facility so I can set up Palmer Industries to require crude oil? I am afraid the power plant in that route isnt flagged as an industry so I cant set it to require coal. Am I right about that? Anyway.....havin some fun now...if I can just figure out how to make AI drivers run routes and load their trains and unload them at the proper places. 8^D

One more question, so I noticed that the trains are heavier when they are loaded.....duh...I assume it means slower acceleration (which I think have noticed trying to pull a loaded coal train with like 30 cars). So if I have a long 40 car loaded coal train will hooking two engines give me better acceleration? 3? etc. (it would look cooler I think haha)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, on the advice of council I take the Fifth on the fifth, yes, yes. :wave:

First step, edit route, Save As, give it a new name and now you have your own route to mess around in. Exit surveyor, load "your" new route for edit, use the terrain add tool to add more baseboards outside the existing ones. Then start laying track, painting ground, adding industries, etc etc. Loaded cars are heavier than empties, if you right click on your loco and View Details it will tell you how many tons you have in tow. Load the cars and look again, increased weight. In CAB mode physics are more or less correct, add more locos to the train and they will all pull together. Some locos have the wrong physics simply by having the wrong engine spec, the GE 44 ton switcher for example should not be able to pull 30 loaded coal hoppers up a 2% grade. But quite a few other locos have fairly realistic physics.

Thanks Sniper....sure havin fun if not accomplishing much
OK....well I want to start learning some AI driver rules too but will prob be another thread and another day. Thanks everyone for all your help.
