figured out a way to download from the DLS the regular way

Subways and railroads
whenever you try to download something from the DLS and it says "unable to download, server is busy"(or something like that) just keep clicking the start button repeatedly when you're in CMP until you see the speed of your downloading which means its downloading. this worked for me

Yes I have done that

I used your approach with some success, but in the the final analysis it depends on how you value your time and sanity.

I broke down and bought a 1 year FCT when they were on sale for $19.99 AUD and it's the best purchase I've made in a long time.

Jamal, hello from the other side of the Delaware. Good to see you're back on the forums. I had some success with that approach too.

But with a couple dozen items to download some weeks ago plus for me the added problem that most the dl's never finished up - they just crawled to a stop after the appauling rate of about 7 min per meg thru put and then turned red with an unknown error after sitting idle for a time.

I gave it up and activated an FCT. Interesting the problem with the downloads being flagged with the unknown error and deleted instantly cleared up too. As did the rate that would have been ridiculed on dial-up a decade ago. Not saying there's anything suspecious in all that but I'm not saying there isn't either.
